I just scrolled down the "trending" tab for quite a few pages. I didn't find a bunch of high quality posts. I did find some, but no more than all over SteemIt. I've found awesome posts here with a few cents, and ones with a few dollars, and yes, a few with appropriate rewards. I've upvoted a few posts on the trending tab, even though my upvote means nothing, and I probably won't get any curation rewards, as it's already on trending. But my thumbs up means nothing on any social media platform, and I still give it often. It's my way of saying I appreciate their post.
So, why is it that there are so many undervalued posts on SteemIt? Sure, there are some overvalued ones as well, but it feels like far less than there are undervalued ones. But if a whale downvotes a post they think is overvalued, it seemingly can start a war. Or maybe it's just being an ass and downvoting. I'm not clear on that yet.
I'm pretty sure a downvote on an actually overvalued post actually helps steemit though, because it allows someone else to earn that reward. But I'm sure that oppinion might piss someone off. I'm pretty good at pissing people off though. You haven't seen anything yet.

I totally agree with you. Most posts which receive high "upvotes" cannot be considered quality or original content. As you said, the steemit team has to figure out how they can weed out these spams, and improve their content, if they are to attract genuine traffic onto their website!
