Follower Growth on Steemit, How to Accomplish it.

Followers are the Second Most Important Aspect of Social Media and Steemit is No Different.

Today I was having a talk with @AnaHilarski and @Sunscape about Steemit and the importance of having people follow you. Steemit is a social media platform built on the Steem blockchain but for some reason people are forgetting the "SOCIAL" in Social Media. I continue to see accounts that complain because they are not gaining traction on the platform.

Content is King on Steemit but followers are Queen!

Well, I think it is time to remind everyone that you need to follow others in order to gain the most benefit from Steemit. This includes engaging with comments on other peoples posts. If you just post good content you might earn but if you are not popular elsewhere on the internet you will be disappointed.

There are Multiple Ways to Build Followers on Social Media and Steemit.

  1. Be an Influencer online and your followers will find you on Steemit. @DollarVigilante is a good example.
  2. Build your followers by being a community organizer. @Papa-Pepper is a good example.
  3. Build by consistently posting and following others. This is my tactic since August 2016.
  4. Be a Hot Latina and post good content. @AnaHilarski is a good example. ; )

What Does This All Mean?

If you are not a celebrity or a hotty like my wife I suggest you get to work following and engaging with other users. @Papa-Pepper and I are perfect examples of people who are putting in the work to build a base on the platform. Steemit is not a get rick quick scheme. You must roll up your sleeves and grind it out. You get out of it what you put in it but the great thing is that the rewards for you should improve over time if you follow the rules of social media. If not you will end up being just another abandoned account.

Steems user base is growing so rapidly i find it easy to met and talk with people. Also my favorite part is actually some of the steemians in the discord here https://discord.gg/HyaSMFK

I am not a great writer, but I am trying to improve, So my strategy till I become a great writer is to engage with other steemit users as much as I can. Comment on all the posts I like and let them know my presence here. Once I build up a little following, I will keep growing because with time, I will be writing better. Great Post, I will resteem it. You have been a great mentor to me here.

Comments can earn as well so it is a great stepping stone but it could also be what you do here on Steemit. Not a problem, it is up to you.

Well, I am just looking for authors whose work I think is great. And I will engage with them a lot. Commenting is what I will do a lot more I think than Posting.

I've managed to gain a few followers just by commenting here and there :)

@josephd good job :D community involvement is the key. Keep it up

You are a wise man!

Very cool. Posting, getting involved the community through comments. Also the Steemit chat to meet new people. Great advice

You know, this is exactly what I was thinking about today. How do I...? and boom I come past your article answering my questions on building a follower base. Excellent topics and post as always @hillarski Thank you and please keep them coming!

Good advice. I am new here and trying to figure it all out. :)

Welcome to steemit @flowerpowerart! Keep reading posts to learn and get to meet new members of steemit.

I make B&W photography, and I believe that it will help me to move here :)

It is great advice, and something that many people have forgotten about, or more likely, we have been so desensitized.
I would guess that most of us have been using facebook heavily (or hopefully not SO heavily) over the last decade or so, and at least in my experience i have noticed a huge incline in commenting (and/or valuable commenting).

lots of good people here. easy to interact and get involved. (almost to the point that I get nothing else done, but that's another story!)

Great post! I've only been here a few days, but I'm trying to apply most of what you wrote. And you're exactly right, you get out of it what you put in it!

Welcome to steemit @drewley! Hope you are enjoying it so far :)

Thank you!

Great post. Some people do get it easy ;) But others must work... and the work here is very rewarding. Thanks for sharing, keep up the grind!

Nice post. I'm not a great writer, right now I'm just trying to get to know people and network ;)

Great article @hilarski , it is a great to be apart of a platform, where the big dogs will try and help out the newbies. Great example is the @papa-pepper video series he is currently doing for new steemit members. There seems to be alot of advice coming from the top dogs. What an awesome environment. Thanks for all that you do to help us newbies out. resteemed. Stack it high while its low but always keep stacking my friend

You are welcome Ray! Keep it up and the rewards will come.

Totally agree with you... Bloggers who interact more with their followers are going to succeed much faster because followers are the Queen. Behind every successful blogger their are many Queens.....

Thanks for the advice. Looking forward to growing my following :)

Cool post, please edit your Year from 2017 to 2016. I would like to re-steem

Done, thank you!

My Pleasure:)

So much informative and fruitful post. Thank you very much for your effort !

Helpful reminder of our part in making Steemit happen for each of us!

Thanks again for more interesting content Randy. I've followed you and will be going through your blog here a bit more in depth.

Appreciate the tips from an experienced member here.

I love how you tell it how it is! greatly appreciate the tips you just gained a follower.. Check back on me in a year. ;)

So many interesting topics and tips found in SteemIt it is almost impossible not to thank the person before leaving. Keeping the "Social" in Social Media thanks @Hilarski

Will try. Good post. :)

Be a Hot Latina and post good content. @AnaHilarski is a good example. ; )

Sadly I can't do that. I'm neither 'hot' nor a 'latina' lol..

Congratulations on your accomplishment!

Umm, I guess I can't do the first part. I'll try to post good content :)

Be a Hot Latina and post good content. @AnaHilarski is a good example. ; )

Great info. Thanks for sharing.

Good advice - resteemed!

Great advice there and just what I need. I became a member 3 days ago and to date have 61 awesome followers. I follow everybody who interacts with my posts, be it a comment or an upvote and also try to follow some of the bigger fish - reading plenty of their posts gives me a better idea of what works and what doesn't on steemit

Steem on!

Great post @hilarski! So if I am partly latina and post more pictures of myself will i gain more followers? ;) i like how you support your wife...great job! Yes I agree with you that you get out of it what you put into it.

Thanks Randy. I've been on here since your 'appearance' on Anti-Media Radio and am still learning the ropes. Particularly in the Fiction category. All in all, with more and more people leaving Facebook and a general diaspora from predatory sites, Steemit has huge potential as not only an alt currency but an alt network that generates all kinds of value.

Randy, thank you for sharing. A bit late to comment. But I am happy to find this post.

You must roll up your sleeves and grind it out.

I have been here for 3-4 weeks now. The first week I was only focussing on writing. Then I realized, half-way through, that I have to engage.

It has been quite a journey so far. So off late, I am engaging...

With no other intention but PURE fun.

Just used the Steemwhales tool and found my followers count:

Screen Shot 2017-05-28 at 12.57.34 PM.png

So glad in a way, because I was able to touch 100 followers a week. I don't see them as followers. I see them as friends I wish to connect to and understand more.

With time, I hope, I find more new friends and engage with many more of 'em!

Thanks for inspiring us! :)

Here's to more...

It is only beginning but I'm working on it.
Thanks for great post!
Voted and followed. :)

I still tend to wonder.. ¿How the heck anyone could expect others know about their existence without first actively interact with other steemians by commenting, upvoting and resteeming other people stuff and also try to engage on real time conversations joining on https://steemit.chat/home for a closer live swirl too? ¿Huh?

¿Are we so narcissistic, deluded and naive in thinking that in this steemit lottery ocean in which thousands and thousands of messages in a bottle float all over on the surface each one and every day, we'd expect that someone simply can notice it to choose specifically ours and that this automatically will earn us a new follower?

Haha Yes, do not be you the one who first approaches them taking the first step and just sit down and wait for them to come to you. That then you will have plenty of time to rock yourself alone in your rocking chair. :)

As always, another excellent post.

Hi Randy, what was your threshold number of followers after which you started making money? I mean, most of my posts are $0, and some are $1, when will it be consistent above $1 aproximately? Thanks!

Thanx for making this clear to everyone on Steemit. I feel like this is a great Social platform where it is good fun to post value added things. But gaining followers is something not every newbie is aware of. Some new friends of mine just post things and forget to interct with others. I think interacting is the most mutual important thing people on Steemit must do.
