Important Missing Points I learned that Minnows Fail to Get in Steemit Platform

in #steemit6 years ago (edited)

Don't stop when you are tired. STOP when you are DONE!

Hello Steemit.

So I learned and enlightened from the post of @ybanezkim26 about Snowball Effect: Minnows Like Me Should Continue With Steemit and I was encouraged to write an addition/response blog from his post.

It is really true that we have a lot of members here (a lot!) are leaving the platform because of the points discussed by @ybanezkim26 on his blog, and those were also the reasons I saw why they left the platform. From my Steemit orientations where I lured a lot of new Steemians from the platform, its a bit sad seeing them inactive. They were rarely recognized by the community, "they are struggling to get the attention and exposure they thought they deserve", as mentioned by kim.

My experience was the same. I joined the platform this June 2017 and I felt the same way. If you guys just knew the way I earned than the way you are earning now, you will really say you are thankful. I've got a lot of zeroes, two to ten cents posts, less than a dollar posts, or shall we say less than 5 dollars. Yes, even though it was HF18 back then were votes were not limited to 10 full upvotes per day.

I even posted a tutorial of how to cook a corned beef (the only thing I knew to cook aside from scrambled eggs and noodles), our garden plants photography, and my creepy wacky face just to get the attention of the people and persuay them to throw some upvotes on my posts.

Yes, I experienced those kind of misfortunes in the Steemit platform.

I'll mention three important things that we need to work on in this platform.

Yes, three big words only with each playing a vital role to your success in the platform. To mention, I have a big feeling in my inner mind that the first word is the only thing minnows (including me), and new users are only focused in this platform and the reason why they fail their expectations.

  • Quality

The most noticeable technique to gain recognition in a blogging platform. In fact, "content" is the heart of Steemit. It is the raw material of this platform. Though quality is subjective, it is the first thing users from this platform are looking. The way you present your thoughts in a delicate manner or how you convey your message that the readers could easily understand is one of the important factor in content quality.

The second maybe pictures that you are using that supports your blog and the Markdown Techniques you are using to make your blog pleasing to the eyes of the readers.

The third maybe how engaging your blog is. The big factors I think that makes your blog engaging are your blogs importance, entertainment level, creativity, and community-driven blogs (blogs that do humanitarian effort or community events).

I have to say this, I am sure of myself I am not achieving those points mentioned above but please allow me to share it for the benefit of all.

  • Stake

Photosource

Stake is an important factor in Steemit. Your investments - which is Steem Power. The Steem Power that you have is an influence to the platform, it somehow defines how valuable you are to the platform. Your upvote value is determined by the amount of Steem Power that you have (delegated or undelegated). Perhaps you can see most of the blogs from the trending page are coming from the users who have a very high Steem Power (I must say, "some").

Steemit is not just about incentivized social media blogging platform, Steemit is also a business. Think of how much dollars (thousands or millions) that those whales invested in the platform and think how they can maximize their investment. Steemit allows investors to get daily returns from their investments by the power of their votes. Either author or curation rewards based system. In fact, bid bots are rampant in Steemit (and are mostly powered by Whales) now just to maximize their profits.

This is also what I am working now. I almost have 3,000 hard-earned Steem Power and I am proud that I got it. To be honest, I can build a nice decent house for my family if I just power down and spent it but I refused. This is an investment of me for a greater Steemit. I have a big feeling and prediction, as a 5th year Electronics Engineering student, that Steemit will fly to the moon in a couple of months. As much as possible, I want to be one of the influential people in this platform when that time comes and that's the reason why I am keeping my Steem Power.

So for you to get recognized and get some attention, focus also on this aspect. The greater upvote value that you have, the more people recognized you. Things like you appear as one of the top value curators on their blogs, then they started following you, engage on your posts to get some of your attention and it is not ball-sucking. That will lead us to the third important word that you need to look on...

Network

Photosource

This is I believe this is the most important thing that minnows fail to get. This is a social-media blogging platform and you can see that on your profile that you have followers and following - network!

This is also what I felt I did great. I am thankful that I gained a lot of friends and expanded my network. Not much but enough to get recognized. The way you perform and the way you are working on your followers is a big thing in expanding your network.

Community engagements too like commenting on users posts is a very big thing in creating your network. Share your thoughts on what about his blog. Make efforts in reading users blogs and comment your opinion and understanding. In return, those users feel valued in their posts and in return, they'll start connecting with you. Plus, they can also upvote your comments!

I found a friend of mine, @czechglobalhosts where in his early stages in Steemit he engaged in a lot of authors posts. He comments his thoughts and understanding of the blog. He comments appreciation on posts from users and he did that in a number of days. Look at him, 2,520 followers with him following only 65 and I'm glad I am part of it :). Whats amazing is he has 69 reputation and he started the same as mine, June 2017! Still it cannot be denied that my friend deserved those achievements. He has the three words I presented - Quality, Stake, and Network. Take note, he worked on that in a big span of time.

Those were the things.

Those were the things I'd like to mention to the minnows and to our new users here. That's the reason why I am always saying it to them - don't dwell and focus on your earnings first. Understand how the platform works and those three are I think the best words that defined the platform.

I am extremely happy of what I am achieving right now and fully contented of what I received in this platform. I have a big story to tell to everyone how Steemit changed my life and I am dedicated to share this amazing platform to new users in our community. The students are my target because I believe they deserved to be here. They're ideas should be rewarded and not just be posted in Facebook for nothing!

That directs me to a Goal

Photosource

To make it happen, I need to be a whale. I don't know how to do it because I don't have those big damn dollars in my pocket and I purely rely my daily needs on my earnings in this platform. I only think one way to make it happen - delegation. An influential person delegating me his stake to use it to fulfill my biggest goal in Steemit.

To be a Curator on Student's Posts

There are a lot of whales out there who are focused on curating quality contents but mine is directly focused on rewarding to students. Who knows? The future is uncertain and with my purest intentions to do so, I believe it will happen soon.

You can Share your thoughts as well.

Thank you for reading up to this last post (if you do). I appreciate it, and I hope @ybanezkim26 and the minnows out there can read this blog of mine. To be honest, I put a lot of effort to put up this blog as writing is not my forte. :)

Sincerely,

Sort:

I can identify with you here,my posts were making mere cents and of-late there are still making cents hehehe!!

It reached a time when my posts made 47$(that is the highest my post has made on Steemit so far!).

I cannot give up just because i am earning cents,Steemit is blowing up soon and i want to be present and active

Another reason i cannot is because i am the Lead Steemit promoter in Uganda encouraging people to join and doing steemit promos.....so how can i quit?? Leaders dont quit.

Quitting has never crossed my mind,i wrote a post yesterday that i advised minnows to stop making posts and start commenting on whales' posts!!!! It is what works currently than 3 hr posts!!

That's the spirit buddy! Please continue to do it especially you play a big role in your community. Please use #promo-steem tag when you do some Steemit promotions :)

I have always used the #promo-steem tag and i remember @starkerz recognised us at SteemFest In Nov...

On the positive side, if Steem goes to the moon. Then even your penny rewards will be worth a lot more.

Dear @jassennessaj
this is your friend @alwintejedor i see that steemit is also building network and friends all over the world. For we are one family and live in one UNIVERSE!

True sir @alwintejedor. I am happy that this post benefits you. Thanks much for dropping by.

my experience is almost the same with you. I almost despair when the upvote value is not satisfactory. but last I realized why it happened. yes it comes from the quality and social contribution we have with others @jassennessaj

Thank you for sharing your experience @nasrud. :)

I feel really sad for myself @jassennessaj, I power down my account until now to allocate enough money so that I can buy a new laptop. This power down won't take long. I just needed to buy a new laptop as I am graduating student which I can use it to utilize and maximize my time in doing our thesis project.

More importantly, I have a laptop so that I can easily connect with my Steemit account. I want to improved also my blogging technique and want to reach more to other people.

Because of this special season, there are many laptops that was onto sale today in the market. Maybe I can buy a better one before the giving season ends.

I am so happy in everything what I've got here in Steemit.

I do have also and long term plan for this platform. I don't focus really on award but I want to bring people also in this community.

I live a bit far from here on Cebu which I am really from Pagadian City, Mindanao and I am really sad about the news. I am asking with my batch mate there during my high school days via messaging on fb, but they didn't even know what's Steemit is.

I am planning to go home there soon, maybe this coming summer after my graduation.

I am planning also to deliver the goodness and the good thing about Steemit to the place where I was born.

To all the support I got from the community, I was really thankful that I made this far in this platform.

Yours truly,

i'm still working on my SP too. I'm thinking if investing in SP is the right thing to do since it would take me so much time to earn SP through my blog posts so the easy way up is to invest. 🙄thanks sa advice lodi haha ❤

Hahahhaa welcome po petmalu 😂

You are definitely right with this post. Though I am not a new user of this platform , it does not guarantee of my recognition here. Things should be dealt with utmost effort if one is aiming for a greater outcome. With those three things mentioned in this post will be met, I am confident that one can bear fruit. :)

Indeed. Thanks a lot @leryam12. True that :)

this post is a topper! great reads here Jas, a lot of people can relate to this and give up or inactive in steemit because they try to compare and focus on money matter first.

I think the essential part of Steemit is community just like facebook the community and connection, if we don't connect /learn or value someone i think it's useless, can vary case to case basis.

so love your post :)

I'm happy with the way it helped a lot of Steemians. Thanks a lot @fernwehninja for the appreciation!

thanks for this post kabayan @jassennessaj. i can feel your purest intentions to help and how much you want to succeed in this platform. It is true that everything you do MUST have a reason, and i think one of this days you'll get your visions come true. We'll continue supporting you and create as much network we need to make it possible. :)

Wow. Thank you so much kabayan @patricjames. I appreciate it :)

thank you for motivating us! @jassennessaj

More power! Power Jass! Power! :D

WAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA pag sure jan!

Panagsa ra baya tawn ko mag bisaya diri sa steemit grabe ako effort ani. Hahaha

wow.. i am following your recommendations... a 5th year student earning this amount of steemit is really life changing! great job! who invited you by the way to steemit?

Here's a 100% upvote for you! ^^ My vote might not be that much since I'm still trying to build up my SP, but this post is really helpful! ^^ You, too, got the three things you've mentioned above. Which is why you're doing great in this platform. You're are a great leader, Jas... And I'm glad to be acquainted with you! ^^ Keep up the great work and continue to inspire! ^^

Thanks for sharing your experience it gives me encouragement to not quit even i experience my first cash out could not be done because of password problem. Hope in second time could not be happen again.

I like how @ybanezkim26 presented his post earlier same as this post, I can actually feel that now and I am only here for 2 weeks. I agree with you @jassennessaj that we should bank on what we do best. If you're a good blogger/writer and you're getting a lot of upvotes continue that, if you're good in photography and get a lot of upvotes on your photos make sure to post daily or every hour. Or if you're getting high upvotes on giving comments then use that. Don't get discouraged easily, learn what you're good at. And develop that skill.

Thank you Engr. @jassennessaj ! Resteemed.

Hahahahahahaha I'm still laughing right now bec of that Corned beef cooking tutorial hahahahahaha piskot uy suwayan nya nakog beef loaf hahahahahahaha

Kidding aside, those words hit me really hard esp the third tip "Expanding your Network". I believe all of us here coexist with one another. Probably some of us are so busy with our next posts right now, but still, we must take time to appreciate our fellows with our encouraging words. And we must not do this to get greater exposure alone, but because we truly appreciate the works of others.

HF19 was discouraging for me because while payout stayed he same or even went up for me, engagement went way down. I spent 3 months debating if I wanted to leave as well. In the end the friendships I'd made here kept me around and eventually got me excited about writing again

Thank you @jassennessaj for taking your time to respond to my post. This post does not only answer to some of my questions, but also reach out to those minnows like who are struggling to have a presence in this platform. I never imagined that my post would stir up something in this community.

Wow. I wish also someone will delegate for you.
For the future of students :). Steemit is love :)...

Nice article. Good job!

My life is my message.

- Mahatma Gandhi

PROUD OF YOU, JASSENN! :) Praying for a delegation next year! Kaya na! This is such a great article! Thank you. :)

This is such an eloquently written reminder; thank you! :)
