nice post, I dont know whether we are in the test to see how things go phase and then the master plan will be unleashed but for me at this stage as a start up I feel as this is meant to be a blog and get paid site, new people will leave in their masses when it comes to work involved to get them going, unless they are a hit straight away. The problem is seeing the people and the fakeness around followers, I want people to follow me cos they like the stuff I write or the video pictures I produce not because they hope I follow or upvote back and they need followers and votes, and vice versa to be honest. Also its meant to be social media but its doesn't feel very social because everything moves to quick. Just my two pennys worth :)

Maybe its just cos i am old and not down with the kids no more :) and youtube doesn't help the amount of time uploading takes, if you could uploads your movies straight to steemit it would save a lot of time and help people produce better content.
this is a perfect example of what i am talking about this article about who to follow for the most upvotes just posted a few minutes ago https://steemit.com/steemit/@jigarparmar519/61reqg-best-whales-to-follow-for-upvotes
it feels more like a game than a social media platform
That's basically a list of whales. If you get votes from them your rewards will rocket, that's for sure. But that doesn't really matter if the whales don't see your content.. Or if they see your content but decides not to upvote you.
But yeah, I can totally see your point about this being a game. In the past, people often called Steemit a huge lottery, and in some terms, it is. - But you can increase your chances to win this so called lottery by having several tickets. - In terms of followers and quality articles. - That's how you'll increase you chances and that's also how you'll make sure to win the lottery, at some point.
I like it in ways, but thats probably just because I have had a few posts do ok but your right in the time and effort part and just think the way it works at the minute and effort involved in having success, is that people wouldn't be interested given their busy lives anyway. However if everybody did get on board and it was a massive success it could be huge, it could be like facebook, paypal, ebay etc all rolled into one everything using steem as currency, you could loan money to friends etc. Like I said, hopefully improvements are to come. :)
