(Most of what you see on TV or elsewhere comes from one of the companies above)
While briefly talking this morning with my roommate about current world events in the news it dawned on me with a flash of excitement and fear to the possibility of large mainstream media companies deciding to entrench themselves and push their own agendas and fear mongering on the STEEM / Steemit network.
How long before one of the companies above take great interest in STEEM?
The rapid adoption and explosive growth of our network will undoubtedly bring unwanted attention from these media moguls. I dare not speculate when they will arrive nor what sort of content they will push, but the persisting feeling in the back of my mind is that they are already aware and likely formulating their entry angle into this somewhat new and experimental form of social media.
What effects will these potential large players have on the markets?
One thing is certain. Any of these large companies have the potential to seriously influence the STEEM market price. For what would be considered a mere drop in the bucket for companies such as General Electric, Disney or Time Warner, they would be able to buy up large portions of the STEEM on the markets and massively power up accounts to which they could use to upvote what they wanted us to see on the front page.
on Wed, Jul 20, at 6:00 PM (UTC), this will start in Poland. Mark my words :)
It's a valid concern. A couple things help me breathe easier about that, though.
One, STEEM is so rare. It's hard to buy a lot of it quick, and if you do it will get expensive fast. 98% of it is powered up, which leaves very little for the open market.
Two, If they do start buying it up like that, they are going to make us a lot of money ;)
I guess! He who holds STEEM has power!
I believe personally it's just a matter of time before we see incursions of these large media moguls into the STEEM ecosystem.
It's probably inevitable. They try to dominate every possible outlet. I hope we can resist it to some extent.
