Hi guys,
We are new on Steemit and were struggling to upload an image to the platform (both for profile picture and a title post picture). You cannot upload an image straight to steemit.com (due to lack of centralised database, we assume).
We did some research and found out that we have to upload the image to a free image hosting website. We tried a few, but the links from those sites didn't work. There seems to be a lot of information about Steemit on http://steemtools.com/ - so much that it may take days to read it :)
So here's a quick guide on how to upload your image to Steemit:
Upload a profile picture
1. Go to your profile by clicking on the circle at the top right
2. Click on Settings
3. Fill in the location of your photo in the first field. We personally used Gravatar to upload our logo, but you should be able to use also http://www.steemimg.com/. This is Steemit's own database for uploading photos. Nice!
Upload a picture in your post
1. Upload your photo to http://www.steemimg.com/
2. Copy the link presented to you
3. In your post, click to show the text editor. Then click on the little picture icon. In the field there paste the link of the image.
If that fails...
1. Upload your photo to a free image hosting website, like https://imgbb.com/
2. Under "Embed Codes" click on "HTML full linked"
3. Copy the HTML code
4. In your post, click on "plain HTML" and insert the copied HTML code where you want your picture to appear. Just try not to mess up the rest of the HTML code :P
We hope this quick guide will help you get the ball rolling quickly on Steemit. This is by no means a comprehensive guide and you should still read Steemit's own guides. If you know different/easier ways of uploading pictures, please share with us in the comments below. We'd love to hear your thoughts!
