Verbing a Name: The Principle of Conscious Marketing

in #steemit7 years ago

This afternoon I was catching up on the latest news from the Dash team, and watched a video that piqued my interest.

The premise of the video is on a simple question of marketing - Why are some popular brands or products used as verbs in our everyday conversation and others not?

Nowadays, we Xerox copies, Google information, and FaceTime with friends and family. How come we don’t Polaroid or Bing?

Bing is a perfect example of a product whose name was supposed to become a verb.

The team at Microsoft watched the success of Google and decided that “Binging” a restaurant was the next wave of search engine domination - that hasn’t exactly happened.

No one has cracked the code of how to make your product or service a verb - not yet, anyway.

What has become more clear in the ever changing Information Age, is that for your message to stay in the conscious of people, verbify your name.

Digital Currency Adoption

Dash is working very hard to be the Digital cash we use everyday, and the private, anonymous currency that no one can track.

Within their community they are now communicating their product as a verb.

I’ll Dash you tomorrow.

Yes, when you first hear that it sounds odd - maybe even creepy.

However, the more I pondered the marketing principle behind the statement, my wheels started turning.

Truly, how long ago did we think googling someone was weird or odd? How common is it to say such a word now?

I don’t know what that would look like for Steem or Steemit, but I think we have a good word association to work with.

I’ll Steem that tomorrow

With the growing ecosystem that is Steemit, there may be a day that the value we transfer online will be Steemed.

What do you think? Is this crazy or is there something to verbing a name?

There Also Something in Marketing Like they command you to do something
" Download it now " - " Watch it Now "
We Can Make it like this " Steem it now " Like Google IT :)

If someone wants their money today, they’ll ask to Steem it now. :)

@lydon.sipe You Need Money ? All Websites Gives you Shit Money ! Steem it now & earn Real money , Steemit is The Future :)

Interesting, lydon - I don't 'tumble' anything - just Google, Skype and tweet - it occurs to me that these sites become verbs because they're popular, basic actions, like phoning someone, or texting if there were a company named Text. I don't think you can conspire to make your company name a verb as in let's 'Foundry' today, lol

Lol! Cannot agree with you more there. I doubt Wesley had marketing in mind when he coined the

hmmm...seems you trailed off there at the end :)

BTW, the Himalayan Salt lamp seems to be helping - I dim it down at night but the atmosphere of the room is still maintained and that's where I spend a lot of time writing, so good suggestion

Lol. Yes, I hit post before esteem caught up. I was saying that Wesley did not have marketing in mind when coining The Foundry name. :)

Wonderful to hear! Thank you for letting us know.

I'm pretty sure that I've said this alot lately: "I've been slacking on steeming anything." So that noun is a verb in my circle.

And when folks ask what that is, I’m sure you have a great response. :)

Need a couple of bucks?
Then Steem up!

Dreamit with Steemit!

steem is too catchy and you can make tons of clever and funny phrases like with dash too.

On the other hand it depends with by popularity something gains. For example google that you are referring too won the ''google it'' phrase a couple of years later from when it formed and started to gain people's trust so within the right time and with a good amount of popularity anything can become a ''name''

You’re right - Steem does have lots of catchphrase potential. The 45,000 daily users is a good sign for popularity. :)

as well as the 7$+ price from 0,07$ a year ago :p and the fact that some know youtubers or in general specialists in their fields joined the platform!

but don't forget to steem on in the process :D

Absolutely. :D

oh man that could be that interesting i didn't imagined that
