Much has to do with cryptocurrency prices going down so much. When the price was all time high in january this year there was much interest in cryptocurrency and altcoins. People tried out steemit and now most people are gone. But i don't think steemit is doomed, and it takes a while to build a social network. Facebook was also not build in 1 day. Steemit is still in beta.
