I get many people asking me all kinds of questions about different aspects of how Steemit works. It seems that they just haven't yet found their way to the official documentation - https://steem.io/documentation/
So for anyone new to Steemit, be sure to make your way to the documentation, as it explains things quite nicely.

There is a lot of documentation being created for Hive also. A lot of developers now showing up there.
