I understand your going through this phase of being the new guy on the platform and have absolutely no idea what all these people are talking about.

The objective in writing a Introduce yourself blog post is increasing your foot print in the community by introducing yourself to possible whales, dolphins and minnows who might you out as a decent content creator, since your just getting started you would fall under the category of minnow, each upvote (OR like in facebook EWWW! terms) carries a value and is dependent on the wallet value of the upvoting account, the account are classified in the three categories of whales, dolphins and minnows based on their voting values.
To check your voting values their are some tools websites that are made such as https://www.steemnow.com this.
You have to look out for high quality post and try to create a post along those lines to have a chance to get the attention of some whales that might find your blog interesting and decide to upvote it.
