Why do the same posts and authors keep appearing at the top of the news feed?

in #steemit8 years ago

As a new Steemit user I find this feature to be troubling.  By allowing the same posts and the same bloggers to consistently appear at the top of feed based on the number of likes they get, it is crowding out other content.  Essentially a small group of people are being allow to monopolize the "prime real estate" on Steemit (i.e. the top of the feed which is the first thing you see on the Steemit feed.)  As a consequence, only a small number of people are making huge amounts of money by virtue of only having the privilege of being listed first in the feed for long periods of time.

A more equitable way needs to be found of allowing new posts to rank higher in the news feed so they at least have a chance of getting looked at.  I know many other Steemit users probably feel the same way.  However, I know most of them won't see this post or have a chance to like it since it will only appear at the top of the feed for a couple minutes at most.

Signed,

A Steemit user who is a bit "steamed" at the moment.

I feel you. I have just wrote a post about what is fair and what is not:

I spend a lot of my time skimming through these to find posts worth reading, too much cut and paste or articles on exactly the same thing. I have faith and confidence in Steemit though, It's early days and I'm sure they will smooth out the kinks so that people don't get frustrated and leave. Otherwise imagine all those broken typewriters.

Seems pretty simple when you actually compare the content of the posts to posts that aren't "trending". All the trending posts are written by people who have put an exceptional amount of time and energy into their posts.

You have to be one of the popular people to succeed.
