3 Basics For New Steemians

in #steemit8 years ago

Let's take a break from the questions today and talk about some new tips for people new to Steem. From what I can tell, we have welcomed quite a few new people recently, so here's a few beginner tips for those of you on this platform for less than a month.

  1. Introduce yourself using the introduceyourself tag. You can add the tag below, or you can add a hash before introduceyourself and it will auto-tag the post. I intentionally did not do this for this post 'cuz I ain't introducing myself! As a bonus to this tip, try to avoid using unrelated tags. Some people will flag you if you do. Some of us will mute you, which means you'll be blocked forever and you won't benefit from our curation ... ever. I don't feel flagging is great, but if I see someone engaging in tag abuse, I will mute them. Both come with consequences.

  2. SteemIt is social media and most people don't use social media to get a return outside of having fun. SteemIt is no different. When I read a post where the user says, "I didn't earn as much Steem as I thought I would" I wonder if this person says the same about Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. Most of your other social media posts don't get that much likes, retweets or responses, so why do you feel SteemIt should be different? Have fun here, but don't go into SteemIt with major expectations - you'll only be disappointed. For really new people, I would suggest commenting over posting.

  3. Play games. User @maarnio creates a daily game that is completely free to play. Provided you follow the instructions, you may pick the winner and get a gift of SBD. Read, follow the instructions, and play the free game. This isn't the only game on this platform, but it's been one of the most consistent games for a while on SteemIt. Anyone who qualifies can play and this game doesn't take more than 1 minute to play.

Have fun. Have fun. Have fun. And welcome to SteemIt.
