Are new user sign-ups broken?

in #steemit9 years ago (edited)

I almost recruited a new user via Mastodon, but he got a nasty looking error message. According to @pfunk on Steemitchat this is an on-going issue due to the @steem account running out of Steem to allocate. Is there somewhere we can go to see the state of Steemit? Other sites have a status page to show what's broken. I know it's a small team, but this will be important if Steemit is to grow. I wasn't even sure which channel on the chat to check in.

Error

I've said before that they need to work on the error messages. Most that I've seen will not mean much to most people.

I have to say my user experience on Steemit has been pretty good. The site has mostly worked fine and it's easy to navigate. I'm geekier than average, so others may struggle more.

Update: I see someone reported this on Github which is where I should have looked first. That's probably the best way to reach the developers. I hope it can be resolved soon.

I'm Steve, the geeky guitarist.

Mine cryptocurrency in the cloud at Eobot, including Steem. You can earn as you chat using WowApp. If you use these links I get a small reward. You can recruit others to do the same.

Sort:

Looks like they are trying the new feature: delegated vesting shares.
This means new accounts only get delegated shares and then have to work for a stake of their own.

That's pretty cool; It prevents name squatting and the @steemit account running out of VESTS.

Apparently it doesn't really work yet :(

Is there an explanation of how this should work? We obviously don't want anything to prevent people signing up

I guess it should just work.
It's obviously a bug and should be fixed soonish.

Ugh, this is no good. We need people on top of this ASAP. Super frustrating to see your hard work getting blocked up by technical issues.

edit: I resteemed this one to signal boost. hopefully some whales will see it and get involved

Who apart from @ned should I tag?

Got my mom signed up yesterday - she had no problems. She had 9 SP and "105ish" delegated.

Maybe it happened since then. But how would we know?
