Julian Assange is looking for a decentralised / cryptographic alternative to Twitter. In true Stephen Kendal style, I suggested he took a look at Steemit. What about a WikiLeaks Coin?

Julian Assange on #Steemit

Earlier today Julian Assange posted this following tweet on twitter.

"I am looking for a decentralized / cryptographic alternative to Twitter. Twitter's freedom of expression has been on an inexorable decline. It is enslaved to its US jurisdiction and politics. Although it is substantially better than Facebook that is a very low standard indeed".

For the ones who missed it, here is the link....

If you are on twitter and was unaware that Julian Assange had made this tweet, may I suggest you add to the list of comments that he takes a look a #Steemit.

I am not the only one who has suggested that he takes a look at #Steemit and the more people who mentions it the better.

#WikiLeaks adopts a #SmartMediaToken #SMT..??

I am not sure whether anyone else has thought about this, but what would happen if #WikiLeaks adopted a #SmartMediaToken #SMT and called it a " #WikiLeaks Coin "..??

Just something to think about for the moment..!!

Thanks for reading.

Great work. Some of the Twitter replies are annoying. For most people it is hard to understand the way that Steem is censorship resistant because they're so stuck in the mindset of using a specific website. It has to be remembered that Steemit.com is just one client for the Steem network. The resistance to censorship comes from your ability to choose your own client. Twitter commenters act like the whole system is dependent on Steemit.com, when the whole point of Steem is that it's not.

Nailed it. Some of the comments on twitter critising the idea simply have no idea how Steemit, Steem and Smart Media Tokens will stitch together. This will change Social Media way beyond the imagination of even the smartest of people on the planet. This is a multiple billion dollar untapped market riped to be picked. Thanks for the support. Exactly, I pointed out that other frontends can and have been built, and as @stephenkendal points out SMT will open up a whole new set of options for utilizing the decentralized unstoppable STEEM blockchain.

If I had a twitter account I would have mentioned it for sure! I will resteem this article so others can help the cause! Getting Assange here on Steemit will be a huge deal!

Shared on twitter. Stephen

@Zappl looks to be a twitter look-a-like based on Graphene am I correct? I didn't like their UX on their iPhone app at all TBH.

I think STEEMIT can be the perfect platform for Wikileaks. As today's DDOS showed, you can knock down or attempt to censor a website, but the info on the blockchain can be viewed from other sources.

I understand your good intentions, but do you think that Steemit could be the decentralized Twitter?

Currently it feels more similar to a blogging site as opposed to the "update the world" kind of feel that Twitter has. Possibly a new usage of the Steem blockchain could be implemented, on more focused on emulating Twitter features. Similarly to how dSound and dTube host music and videos. Just my two cents

Thank you for information

Free Julian Assange, and legalize freedom!

useful information, i am book marked this post.

there should be the release of Zappl any day now

It's almost as if Assange was baiting the Steemians on Twitter to mention Steemit.

Mr. Kendal, you fell for Assange's crafty ploy. ;-)

Thanks to post

Thanks to post

Wow, so much misinformation and anti-Assange butt-hurt in the replies to you on Twitter. Thanks to all those that tried to correct the FUD spreaders and muck-rakers.

I think an Steemit option to set alternate sort options based purely on upvotes or user defined combinations of upvotes, freshness, and reputation would counter all remaining "but it's influenced by wealth" arguments.
