Can Steemit Compete With Facebook?
In what aspects does Steemit beat or match Facebook?
With concern to the posting aspect of each site, Steemit has a major advantage over Facebook simply because people are more willing to share with others if they are being reimbursed. The Steemit system has a quite simple user interface like Facebooks but has the ability for users to format their posts which is much more advanced than Facebook. The formatting enables users to post much more informative and attention attracting articles for followers which greatly improves the user experience on the site. For these reasons, Steemit is currently leaps and bounds ahead of Facebook in the area of content posting.
Similarly commenting on Steemit takes the advantage purely for the monetary aspect. People are much more willing to provide other users feedback if they are able to gain something back in return.
What is Steemit is missing?
Whilst Steemit is a really powerful platform which is greatly admired by many in its community it does lack some features which are critically important for Facebook. The ability for friends to message each other on Facebook is extremely easy and is likely the main motivation for people to use the site. The fact that Steemit doesn’t have this feature directly connected to the steemit site and is still growing exponentially really demonstrates how desirable the other facets of Steemit are. If Steemit was however willing to integrate a messaging service between followers on the steemit.com site it could help attract many more potential users to the platform to use Steemit as a daily app to share with friends. Obviously, there is Steemit chat but this service is not directly integrated into the site and is substantially different to Facebooks messenger and whilst it has potential it currently is not at the standard of Facebooks messenger.
The Steemit platform is also missing a dedicated search system for the site and just uses a google based search. Whilst this may not seem like something of significance it is little aspects like an easy search system that will ultimately decide if someone is to adopt Steemit into daily life.
What should Steemit do in the future?
If Steemit really wants to compete with high tier social networks they will have to develop the platform more like popular sites. Just because they provide revenue for posting doesn’t ensure that they will continue to grow their user base. Money simply cannot motivate everybody and some similar features to Facebook could really get the public on board with both the platform and the crypto which runs it.
