Could You Be A Steemit Editor?

in #steemit7 years ago

There are many men and women using steemit these days, myself included, who are not exactly the most technically minded or gifted individuals but who enjoy the platform and want to be successful going forward.

We all know that a big part of having a successful blog here is in the presentation quality of posts although this is of course no guarantee of success in itself.

Markdown, uploading images, spelling, grammar, referencing sources and including banners and page dividers etc. There are so many aspects to putting together a well presented post that for some it can be quite daunting and I can say from my own personal experience that for those of us that are technically deficient, learning how to do these things is not easy either.

As I often say, my brain is just not wired that way.

In my short time here, I have seen many posts that are extremely well written and thoughtful yet terribly presented and have been overlooked in my view as a consequence.

I would like to suggest that those who are able make themselves available to those who are not.

I would like to suggest that some of us become editors and offer our services to anyone who wants it by agreeing to edit, by way of formatting and presentation etc, the posts of others in exchange for whatever it is you would like to use as a means of exchange.

For example, if I had something to say that I thought was important but which may be overlooked due to my poor presentation skills and I wanted to improve it's chances of being seen and shared with others, I might ask you to have a look at it and see if you could present it in such a way that will enable it to be so. For this I might offer you a fair share of the posts rewards in return.

I'm not sure if this is something that already exists on steemit but if it doesn't I would imagine it could be a good idea and be successful for some people.

Obviously, I would encourage everyone to learn as quickly as possible for themselves how to do all of these things but while the platform is still small and a little tricky to get the hang of for some, I would suggest that this could be a useful stop-gap until such time as new users are up to speed. I also think it could improve the quality of posts overall on the platform.

I am always open to the possibility of being wrong though, especially when I speak with so little knowledge on a subject and always willing to admit when I'm wrong, so please let me know if this would in fact be a bad thing or if there is anything I haven't considered.

Thanks a lot for your time and I hope everyone is having an excellent day! :[)

Great words Tony, Steemit truly is what you make of it. If you put in the effort, take time to meet and interact with new people, and have fun with it - you will be rewarded in the long run.

Cheers Chris. I struggled with presentation at first and still am but have been fortunate to have someone to hsow me a few things here and there but for anyone new to coding etc it can definitely be an intimidating and off-putting process I think.

Very true, even myself with a coding background - I was not familiar with "markdown" at all. I think that's like blog stuff, which I never did before.

It would be nice if they incorporate a WYSIWYG type editor into the create from, but I assume that's an issue with not wanting too much HTML markup in the mix.

Everything you just said sounds like Chinese to me @steempowerpics. :[)

That's how technically deficient I am!!

Did you see that our little contest was mentioned in the hit parade for the number of comments? :[)

Yep - I saw the reply on your post. Super cool, and already so many entries coming in.

It's doing well so far and people seem to really enjoying the theme so you can thank Daniel for me for that one. :[)

Hope you're having a good day buddy!

This seems like a STEEM Gigs sort of thing.

How would they share the edit?
I guess the person who wants to have a post edited, would need to send a STEEM to the Editor with a memo stating their email address. Then the Editor would have to contact the Author, then the Author would send the unedited post to the Editor. The Editor would edit the post with the proper markup and resend it back (preferably zipped up with the images).

Would a preview be required before payment?
How would you prevent someone from steeling the preview? (Image of the article and not text?)
Would there be a STEEM price per word, per picture?

Just spit balling here.

Me too mate. :[)

I am sure all of these sorts of issues could be worked out if there was a desire to do so and with the formatting being sent via email for example and cut and paste into the submit a story it would show all of the coding that the editor has used to create the presentation and this would hopefully lead to the person making the post learning from what the editor has done as all of the coding is there to be seen and learned from.

That's how I imagine it anyway. :[)

Hope your day is going well @deanlogic.

Thanks for the great comment buddy!

Maybe if there was a way for Steem Writer to link accounts to a draft, then that would be useful. I wouldn't know how much work would be involved, but maybe something in the transfer memo could be the key to link the accounts. So, the Author could provide a down payment and then the Editor does the work. Then the post would be released when the Author agrees with the final draft. The final cost could then be calculated on the word count.

:[) I have only just discovered steem writer thanks to your comment. :[) See how little I know about these things? And I'm sure there are many who have even less knowledge than me at this point which is why I feel it would be a useful idea for anyone who might want or need to improve their posts but doesn't yet know how and why it might also be useful to someone who is able to provide the service.

I have no idea how it would be done either but would love to hear more ideas from anyone who has any. :[)

I knew of another writer before I commented, so I checked the STEEMit Apps to see what I could find.

perhaps a go between (trustee) to hold both the finished edit and the payment...before completing the final transaction. The edit work could be reviewed through a screen shot...I play spitball as well, as long as I'm not out of my skill range.

I think the initial contact would be the hardest to setup.
People dealing in crypto probably like to keep their emails to themselves.

I think an app that would allow an Author to connect to an Editor would be the best bet. And the app could hold the article until final payment is received and then post it.

Interesting, I know very little about apps. I avoid them whenever possible. ;)

Technically, STEEMit is an app. ;)

Mutual help and mutual support makes Steemit a great platform.

Good idea @tonyr... sounds like something that might be run through the @steemgigs initiative; someone could put up a listing: "Will edit and format your plain text post for 20% of your liquid rewards" or something. I don't know how to format that, exactly... or maybe for a fixed amount of SBD.

Thanks @denmarkguy! I first thought about it when I was struggling myself with presentation when I joined. I think now my presentation is OK but I also think there is a fair market for something like this. If the editor was to set up an email account specifically for steemit and the posts were sent in this way then when the person making the post has it returned from 'the editor' they can just cut and paste it into the submit a story page and all of the coding will be there for them to see so they will hopefully be able to work out from that how to do it themselves in future, atleast the plain text formatting.

As I said I am not very technically minded so while this sounds logical to me I will wait and see what others have to say. :[)

Hope your day is going well buddy!

I think this is a great idea, not sure if this can be worked as a divvying up of the booty sort of thing though.

I think I would be happy to proof read for those who feel they need it...before being forwarded to someone who formats the page.

@tonyr I did just notice that you are in reach of completing the challenge. I wonder if you are aware that @merej99 has set day 9 as a "fun post" to help those still wishing to complete get their 500 comments completed.

Just a heads up...and good luck!

Thank you so much for the heads up @cryptologyx! I had seen the post but had been so busy I had forgotten to return to it. I will pop over there now. :)

Thanks for the comment on my post as well. I would suggest that if this is something that interests you you, you might offer your services when you come across an author whos posts you think require some work. I'm not really sure how the whole thing might work but I believe that individual men and women can come to agreements between each other without there being a set way of doing things so whatever works I suppose. :)

Thanks again my friend!

Have a great day!

Of course...I had been thinking along the same lines myself for a future project. I'm forever catching simple mistakes that others miss...perhaps they just don't worry about such things...others of course there is a language barrier.

Glad I was able to give you that heads up...the challenge finish line is within your reach. Good luck!

Thanks again my friend @cryptologyx. I visited Merediths post and there are an insane amount of comments there. I answered her first question with a gif that I hope she will appreciate but my laptop couldn't handle the scroll down to the next question and my screen kept freezing. :) Its a long post!!

I have only a short way to go now and plenty of time so I should be able to make it. Thanks again for all of your help. :)

I think if it improves the overall quality of posts on the platform and helps make steemit better then it can only be a good thing!

Perhaps you were at the original page. It has now been dubbed "the beast" and has been retired.

Here is the current update page with all the info you require. Good luck I still have 130 comments to go...nuth'n to it but to do it! ;)

Nice post .. and good idea ... just wondering how this can be achieved from a practical pow ... if Steemit allowed a function whereby you can share the revenue from a post with another user - i think that would be the way to go... but we'd need the functionality to be included

As I said in the post, I'm not very technically minded so I'm probably not the right man to propose a solution but if someone wanted to set themselves up as an editor they could set up a designated email for steemit and receive submitted for edit posts in that way and once edited they could be emailed back to the creator of the post. In this way the creator would then be able to see exactly what coding has been done to achieve the desired presentation and should then have a better idea of how to go about doing it themselves in future!

Yes, it's a learning process. Heck, I just learned to turn my phone to the side before I take videos with my phone. Thankfully another Steemian was kind enough to let me know. We're all in this together! @tonyr, you'll do great. I can tell!

Cheers @karencarrens. I'm doing OK as I have some friends here also who are very kind with their time but thought it might be a good idea for some. There must be some people who rarely post or not at all but who curate and would be able to help those who are struggling with presentation.

Thanks for the comment and hope your day is going well! :[)

Of course. :) Hope you have an awesome day too!

~smiles~ and now you have landscape format...new vistas await!

Yes😁so much better!

Yes...yes it is. ;)

Really deep and true words :0)

Thank you @saffisara. I'm not sure that it is something that is needed but I wasn't sure so thought I would ask the question. :[)

Good that u did :0) never be afraid of that
Ur doing a great job

Thank you saffisara. I really appreciate the support. :[)

Yeah, it definitely pays of to challenge yourself! :)

If we only had the time to do it... I'm trying to help a friend or two.. but for me it's currently too much. Well, if you think about it you only new few days to learn the basics.

That is true, it doesn't take too long to learn the basics but some people I'm sure really struggle with just the basics and could use the help. It took me a little while to get the basics down and I would have liked to have improved a couple of posts I put out beforehand.

Yeah @tonyr. I have a friend who's occasionally calling me and asking me how to do things here. I'm pretty patient with him, because he really need to learn a bit more about using the internet in general.. but if he doesn't quit for me his success will follow sooner or later.

The trouble is that most people who are computer savvy really do think that this stuff is easy but for the likes of me it is like learning a foreign language and can take some time to get used to. I'm getting there though! :)
