RE: Why I Support Zer0hedge Even Though He Steals Content And Is A Plagiarist!!!! Or Does He????

in #steemit8 years ago

I will upvote this post as it sheds light on some of the most blatant copy and pasting going on at the moment and this is also original content. You actually took the time to sit down and think about the issue and create a post.

Who is flagging @zer0hedge? I am.

Let me first say that I do not have a 'vendetta' against this individual and that I'm a frequent reader of Tyler Durden and ZeroHedge.com

Why I'm flagging this account?

Here's an excellent post from 3 months ago authored by @patrice

Tyler Durden of Zerohedge joined Settemit! Oh it's only a Copy and Paste Zerohedge

You can read this article for yourselves as the author makes a great point.

If you continue to support and reward Copy and Paste material you are signalling to the community (especially new users) that this is what's valued on the platform. What do you think the outcome will be?

Let's address a few things.

I've only ever flagged 2 accounts in my 11 months on Steemit and both have been for the same reason.

@zer0hedge and @sandrino

(The latter posts upwards of 10 youtube videos a day and falsely claimed to be affiliated with WSL - World Surf League)

You asked the question:

Have you ever linked a YouTube video?

Yes, most of us have. Aside from my earliest posts (when I didn't understand the platform), I have made a concentrated effort to source all of my material properly and this includes photos.

I don't support content as you've described in your post above (MEMEs, YT vids, links with a few words /etc.) and refrain from upvoting low effort posts.

So is Zer0hedge a plagiarist?

@zerohedge is a plagiarist

But you're mistaken to come to the conclusion that everyone who has uploaded a YT video here is also a plagiarist. There are excellent posters here who write posts and add in depth commentary and analysis and who link a YT video for emphasis or to begin their discussion (and most of them provide a citation or give credit to the creators). This is vastly different from copy and pasting.

There is either a line in the sand or there is not...we are either stealing content or we are not.

Yes, there's a line in the sand but i don't believe that the it's black and white as you present this dichotomy. If you site your sources properly, give credit and add to the discussion I don't believe that that's 'stealing content'.

There most certainly is a line and it isn't difficult to distinguish either.

Sort:

Amen!
Why don't Steemcleaners take care of it?
I could do the EXACT same thing as he does and earn his payouts if the only thing he cares is to let people know about these "great articles" (which I agree on) then decline payout !
He doesn't even add 1 sentence about his opinion/analysis.
He should be downvoted for life and believe me I love www.Zerohedge.com.
I can't believe people actually support him...

@zerohedge is a plagiarist

It's Zer0Hedge and you're wrong.

There is no way I can give more credit to the author and warn people I am not the author than what I'm doing now.

I also asked half a dozen time how I could make it less ambiguous, never had a single answer, all you want me to do is stop.

Most people want the best content brought to them not necessarily visit a website with subsidized original content.

How many people are staying on Steem because of my "Best of ZeroHedge.com" vs people leaving Steem to go spend the bulk of their time on ZeroHedge.com thanks to my link?

Maybe next you'll be pissed that I tell people to go visit a competing website where people are not so uptight about copyrights and subsidizing content (like 95% of the rest of the internet)

Can you ask @Jamesc who's delegating you your huge stake what he think of this situation?

Yeah, except you made no effort to let people know you aren't the real zerohedge until people started flagging your posts. If it mattered so much to you, you would have been doing it from the beginning.

I'm not responsible for everyone's ill-assumptions.

Everyone who was publicly assuming the wrong thing in the comments was notified.

Should I just hang myself because someone like you was confused 6 months ago?

Interesting. Apparently @patrice has problems with someone copy pasting interesting content but when a spammer copy/pastes his spam it doesn't "get her goat"...
