First I want to say good for anyone who is on the trending page and the hot page. I am not hating on anyone. If you are wondering why you see a lot of the same people on the trending and hot pages is because they have high SP and know people who started on here who also have high SP. There is no conspiracy, it is only logical that their work would make it to the top more often than others. But maybe we can make it easier for newer users to make it or shake things up so there are more times when different people are showcased.
Here is what I am thinking. We make it so that you can only be on the hot list once a day and the trending page once a week. It would not be that hard to set up (I think) we can put it in the algorithm. If person x is on the hot list then person x cannot be on the hot list for 24 hours. That way people can still get their upvotes and money but we can have other people get the views. It is a system that might work for rewarding people without punishing those who have the SP.
What do you think?

Maybe they could just rename those pages to "Been on Steemit A Long Time" & "Has Lots of SP"?
It might clear up a lot of confusion for people who go there thinking it represents the best content Steemit has to offer.
When did trending ever mean best? ;) I don't think that's a reasonable expectation. Trending and hot imply popularity and/or success and when did popularity start having a direct correlation to quality? ;) Ever? 😜
That is sadly so true.
Okay that gets an 80% upvote from me.
I will graciously accept your 80 % upvote and offer in return my minnowly 0.06.
YES! :p
hmm, I like that idea.
I do not bother with either of them very often. I prefer the new, and my feed.
I have heard about the Circle jerking, and same people all the time,so I intentionally avoid those pages(private clubs),after all they are not for me and my fellow minnows!
I would rather help those who need the help.
Just IMHO.
Namaste
It certainly could level the play field somewhat.
I think it's worth a try...

stunning eyes and very good post
I think this is a more workable idea. Hope that happens pretty soon
Number of actual views would be a good factor
At first blush, I consider this a remarkable idea, well worth considering.
It was also worth my strongest up-vote. ;)
😄😇😄

P.S. And worthy of Re-Steeming. ;)
I think it's a pretty solid idea, it would definitely give new users a better chance to thrive. I am sure, however, that the big boys would not like this.
Makes a lot of sense, would definitely be nice to see coming from ol' minnow me :) I'm going to read your linked article now.
Agreed, there needs to be more rotation in which posts are up there. Posts can stay there for days but they probably dont get anymore new votes after 2 days so its pretty much useless...the smaller fish (like me) need a chance!
I think this is a wonderful idea! I don't visit trending or hot any more for those same reasons...always the same people on there... They could probably write a post with the word "hi" and still go to the trending posts, because of who they are, not for what they write.
I hope someone takes your suggestion into consideration, it would be more fun and would showcase steemit better to new people :)
I think it'd be better to just be able to let users filter out certain topics, or even specific posters. i.e. Personalized Trending pages. This should draw more attention to a more diverse set of posters. If these could be saved, curated, and shared - even better.
Personally, I think Steemit has a long way to go to improve its discovery features
I could live with that solution. Good idea.
I think your idea is very good and would be a nice measure to make steemit visibly more diverse to newcomers and might actually enlarge the society of the most popular by a bit.
But we also have to keep something else in mind. The trending page itself is not the most important issue, it's just a way to make the issue obvious (and I'm not even sure if I want to call this issue a problem really though it might be considered as such). The issue is that the biggest rewards are generally had by the same limited pool of accounts. And anybody that's surprised by something like that should really reevaluate their views on how a free market works.
What we see on the Steem blockchain is what we see in the real world as well - the parties and agents that have access to the most money, resources and/or power end up leveraging that and gaining even more money, resources and/or power. I understand that many people here are firm believers in the free market as a driving force of progress and I do agree to a great but often not full extent, but this shouldn't stop us from noticing its shortcomings when we spot them. The underlying process that makes the trending and hot pages so homogeneous and repeatable and the exact market forces that allow the 1% to keep expanding their lead and reach inside free economies.
Now spotting the issue might not be so hard (although some might find my reasoning controversial, especially here), but the big questions is would we want to do something about it if we could and what. I'm personally not even sure the issue I'm talking about should be classified as a problem and not an expected state of affairs in a free system. Or we might want to try to offset the trend somehow. One thing that we can do and that many people are already doing, including people that can get into the trending page is support newcomers and smaller authors. Changing the trending page the way you are suggesting would certainly tug things in that direction as well. But we should be realistic in our expectations and realize that this is not just the trending and hot pages, but a much deeper underlying issue regardless of our attitude towards it and our evaluation.
Interesting idea.... thanks for posting this, I agree Steemit needs to even out the playing field a bit, the minnows and dolphins hardly stand a chance, it takes incredible patience and a lot of research to figure out how to work your way up. I like your idea, I have upvoted and resteemed and now following you, thanks!
