What for?
We absolutely need one because as I start to tell people how awesome Steemit is the first question I get is "Does it have an app". Before I used to say "Well, kind of, yes" because there is an app, but personally I find it not very comfortable. It is difficult to write longer articles when you only have a mobile phone and I did not receive proper notifications.
So right now I am devoted to making an App for our loved Steemit, that will have the following effect: "WOW! At last, that is what we have been waiting for!".
Plan
We are making a completely open and transparent project, just like the blockchain, which will help us to make the best App that Steemit deserves.
I have seen many false attempts to develop an app with just an article with cool designs and nothing else. What our team is going to build is a comfortable place for both writing long articles, posting pictures, and looking at useful Steemit analytics from mobiles and tablets. I am completely devoted to this project together with my colleague Egor, to complete it well and on time.
Our task #1 is to find a designer who knows Steemit
Someone who will be able to make a simple and smart User Interface with pleasant User Experience. We need a volunteer, who will be willing to make a difference to Steemit and set their footprint in the development of this APP. We are also looking for local designers in case we can't find anyone in Steemit.

I have already made a list of features that I want to implement in this app which are absolutely necessary and will come in first versions and which we are going to leave for the later versions.

Get some feedback from you, real users of Steemit, in order to expand my list of cool features, which will be implemented. Please feel free to brainstorm in the comments below. We can't wait to get our hands dirty in the code development!
Find a volunteer, who will be thrilled to help us design the app, maybe someone has already made some mockups he/she is willing to share
Share the project, thoughts, ideas and updates with the community and possibly get some funding (not necessary) to rent an office for the team.

Great idea. Using Steemit on a smartphone is very uncomfortable.
As I remember Steem Development team wrote that a mobile app is in their nearest plans too.
If they make it soon, I would not mind as long as it is comfortable. I am guessing that Steem Devs are busy with other important things such as hard forks and testing. But for now, we will do our best to develop it very soon.
