Where's the Apple?
My colleague gave me an "apple" today. He said it came from Jordan and I should try it. It tastes nice and best of all, nutritious.

But hey, this tiny fruit? How can this be an apple?! It is round shaped, no bigger than an inch in diameter as you can see on this reference photo below.

This fruit is called "doum" (or dom) a fruit of the doum palm tree or more commonly known as the gingerbread tree. It normally grows in the Arabian Peninsula and also in the northern half of Africa.
The one they gave me is the still un-ripe fruit. Like dates palm fruit, it shall get reddish brown when really ripe. It also gets much sweeter, which makes it attractive to honey bees. Subsequently, these bees produce a very good variety of honey called the seder (sidr) honey.

The doum fruit when opened, has a big round seed inside covered with the fleshy part. The flesh is also just a thin layer of the fruit as you can observe at the right photo.
Apple? It does not really taste like an apple. Ok, a little bit like an apple. It is a combination of sweet-sour taste, the smell is like an old cheddar cheese. Or something like that. LOL.
My Jordanian colleagues are too eager to share these tiny fruits to me, it is practically rude to decline. And hey, it's not too bad to learn (err, taste)something new every now and then day. Another plus, is that I am able to showcase my "photography" talent and prove that my good ol' Samsung Galaxy Note 3 still has something to offer.

So how many you should eat if you're really hungry. Is the saying "An apple a day keeps the doctors away" applicable to that doum fruit?
Probably 1 kilo of doum a day keeps the doctors away is suitable.
I really think that more than apple, this should be compared to dates since they are both palm fruits.
Wow. My first time to see such fruit. 😉
YUp! Me too. Kala ko aratiles, but when I opened it had a huge seed. Everyone was like, "eat! eat!" I had to try in front of them. haha
both...:)
Lols, yeah @gilvelosoreyes. :D
Looks like mini apples hehe how was the taste?
It's not too bad. Almost like a green apple, only a little bland I think? Basta. haha
I'll have to look for one next time I'm in Israel.
Kind of reminds me of the crab apples I used to get in the market when I lived in China.
Yeah, it must be a common fruit in Israel too.
Interesting fruit what you showed us @arrliinn, definitely there are fruits one imagines that don't exist but there you go hehehe. Thank you for sharing
You're right @felobtc... I was really hesitant to try it, but then my colleagues were like, "eat! it's like an apple." So yeah... something new today! :D
What an amazing tiny Apple, I have encountered small apples before but nothing quite like this. And I love the focus on the first picture, works so well. Great share, thank you.

Yeps, not really an apple but a palm fruit. :)
I struggled with my phone's camera since it has a poor focus for close-up shots. Haist, I have to work hard for a better camera or phone with better camera, or steemit willing, both! LOL
Lovely photos . I’ve never seem those tiny fruit before.
So cute apple. This must be the smallest apple i have ever seen. Oo nga parang aratiles ang liit.
Thanks for sharing your Post @arrliinn .
I sure did "Learn something new today" as I have never seen or heard of this kind of fruit. Thank you . Maybe some day I will get chance to try one :)
Theres more to see..❤️
It really does look like an apple. Maybe it's an apple kid. Haha! I wish I could taste that one too.
