Read and learn

Always remember that children respond better to a fun learning environment and they like to feel that they are making their own decisions. Here are some tools to persuade your child that reading can be fun and that it will assist them with future learning development.
Pictures and images
If your child is still small, get a story book with pictures or images for them to look at. This will encourage them to want to carry on so they can see what is happening with the characters or creatures. It will stimulate their creative thinking when you incorporate colourful pictures. Colours and big fonts tend to grab the interest of younger readers. You can even try and get a book where your child can colour in the pictures as they go. This might help them pay more attention to the story line and keep them intrigued.
Audio books
I remember as a child I had a set of books that had the entire story book recorded on tape. If your child is starting off as a first time reader, audio books are a great tool. While they are listening to the story being read to them, they follow in the book. This will help them to hear and see how the words are formed and pronounced. Have them listen and follow in the book a couple of times, then let them read on their own.
Sharing is caring
Show an interest in the book your child is reading at the moment. Familiarise yourself with what the book is about and a few of the characters. Once you have an idea of the book, ask your child questions about it. Who is the main character and what is his or her mission? Who is your favourite and why? Would you like to go on the adventures that the characters are going on? If you were in the same situation, what would you do different and why? Don't bombarded them with too many questions, they might get annoyed with that. Try and ask questions in a way that they want to tell you more or maybe have to read more in order to answer that question.
These are guidelines for you to utilise in helping your child to become a better or a frequent reader. Do not force them to read as this might make them dislike the subject of reading all together. Rather use tools and guides to get involved.

I’m very lucky as most of my kids love to read, but i do like all your hints. I particularly liked the sharing is caring. Kids definitely love to read with someone else or have someone read to them especially the little ones.
