Learning English Through Poems

The beauty of English is the various methods that it can convey the same story. We all know about the story of the Tortoise and Hare. Most of us learnt it as a story to teach us humility and perseverance. However the delivery can be more exciting and colourful if delivered in the form of poetry.

Poetry has its way, to me, it is closer to music than literature. In the olden days, this is like rapping which also works on rhymes. So, it is a cooler way to present something than the usual form that we are so used to.

There was a forest race that even the King will grace,
The crowd gathered, who shall win everyone wondered,
The hare proudly thumps its chest in bravado,
I am faster than even the tornado.

Proclaiming a win not yet feathered.
Whilst the tortoise shivered,
Speed isn’t his virtue, perseverance is,
To this, Tortoise took the risk.

The crowd gone wild, the race started right,
Speedy launched ahead with no fur at sight,
Cutting through the trail right to the tortoise’s pride,
A ribbon away the Hare saves his bite.

Maybe a nap will leave no gap,
It is not a trap but victory is in grasp,
Tortoise’s feet blistered and sore,
Victory is not elusive it is right at the fore.
To Tortoise, no fate is written on the stone.

The hare was snoring while the tortoise was limping,
The ribbon in sight, the victory seems bright,
The Tortoise has won bragging rights,
Everything was earned right.
