We recently enrolled my son on ABC Mouse and what a wonderful program that is. We instantly realized that he was confused with some colors but also that his number association needed some work. Yes, ABC Mouse does have activities that focus on this, but I believe in doing things practically.

Here are a couple of number association activities that I have planned on doing with him:

Activity 1: Balloon bath

You will need the following:

A bath tub full of water
Different colors of balloons
Shapes made from foam sheets that could stick to the bathroom wall.

Instructions:

Blow up all the balloons and write numbers 1-9 on them.
Use the foam sheets and write numbers 1-9 on them as well.
Throw the balloons in the water and put the shapes up against the wall.
Start with choosing a shape from the wall, tell your child the number name and ask them to take out all the balloons from the tub that has the same number on.
After repeating step 4 several times you now don't show your child the number, just tell them the number name and ask them to take out all the balloons from the tub.

Activity 2: Number to dot

You will need the following:

Paper with a table on, numbers 1-10 in each row with a space left open.
Pebbles, rocks, circle disks etc.

Instructions:

For the first few times indicate the number, say the number name and then allow your child to pack the correct amount of pebbles.
After your child has mastered step 1 do not indicate the number, only say the number name you want your child to associate with the correct amount. Do it first in order and after that start mixing it up.
