we tried to reproduce this and could figure out what the problem is. right now after logging in with steemconnect you need to switch back to the app. if you do this to slow the reconnect do not work correctly. I have wrote this in the backlog and it will be fixed in the next patch.
in the meanwhile could you please check if it works when you switch back to the app after logging in as fast as possible and tell us the result?
I haven't tried the browser yet, but when the old version it's fine for me about the app but the update version still keep on connecting
