you get more when you advance up in league

OK great. I'm not able to move past bronze 2. Getting difficult for me to move up.

Giveaways are indeed a great way to get some more cards for free.
You could also join other contests that pay out Steem or SBD prizes. If you win, you can get yourself more cards.
Another way to earn a little extra is to write a short post every day about your Steemmonsters adventure. Use 'steemmonsters' s your first tag, and you can get a small upvote on your post from the SM-voter bot by sharing a link to your post in the 'upvote' Channel in the Steemmonsters Discord server
