the two main things are gold cards start at level 3 or 4 and take a lot less cards to upgrade. The second thing is you earn more DEC when using gold cards.

Thanks @threejay, another thing I do not understand, is that when I win a battle, sometimes I get + 30 DECs and sometimes only 3?
