In the race for quantum supremacy, Microsoft announced plans to release an open cloud quantum computing service in private preview.
Azure is Microsoft's cloud service just like Amazon's AWS and Google's Firebase.
Microsoft's quantum development kit is open-source and available on GitHub. They are working together with IonQ a startup company, by doing this it will also be available to existing Microsoft products like Visual Studio, Visual Studio Code or the Quantum Development Kit along with quantum computers.
This isn't a surprise to the technology world after the recent breakthroughs in quantum computing by the tech giants Google and IBM. Most companies like Rigetti and D-Wave Systems makers of quantum computers for Google also offer cloud quantum computing. IBM’s 53-qubit computer will also be available in the cloud.
Microsoft has made plans to launch Azure Quantum soon, in the coming months.
