RE: What's in your safe?

Pappy Van Winkle family bourbons are and have been nearly unavailable, in Virgina, USA, for some time. The whole USA, too for that matter. The Virginia state-run, VA ABC, puts on a lottery, for one, to have the privilege, of purchasing, one of Pappy's Products. The 23-year-old Pappy, winner's (MSRP) price is $240. But is going for between $2400-$10,000, on the secondary market. Some, recent Whiskeys, that were available, are becoming collectibles and Investments. Elijah Craig 18 Year (750ml), in VA ABC Store, went from $36 to $200 to unavailable, in the store. To $400 - $600+, on the secondary market. Elijah Craig 12 year, gone, secondary $200+. Blanton's in drying up, too. I recommend Buffalo Trace (at under $30). Excellent inexpensive, bourbon. Getting harder to find. The ABC clerk said it is selling out, almost immediately. I think Heavenly Hills makes all the bourbons mentioned and has bought out many different distilleries. Explosive sales have exhausted many labels. It takes years to replace age statement bourbon. Some Wealthy Japanese Investors are buying some whole, entire company labels, instead of just a bottle or case. • SteemSilverGold •

Yeah, i’ve heard that there’s a run on bourbon. It’s nearly impossible to find any up here, without goin. To soecialty shops and spending large...

It's kind of crazy... I'm curious how the market will look in another 3-5 years or so. I suspect when the bourbon mania started 7 or 8 years ago distillers started making a little extra of the stuff that ages 10+ years but probably not too much, in order to keep demand high.

Pappy is far to expensive for what it is. I've had a glass one time and it was delicious, but there are better bourbons on the market that I don't feel wasteful drinking haha. Blanton's is one, Buffalo Trace and Eagle Rare are others. Those are all made by Buffalo Trace Distillery and have sort of drastically increased in price and demand the last few years. I would love to find some WL Weller 12 year as it is purported to be the same mash bill as Pappy but at a ~$30 retail and obviously not aged quite as long.
I'm also in VA and had to do a sort of circuit to try and finally find a bottle of Blanton's here in NOVA, I could probably tell you the delivery days of about 4 or 5 ABC shops around here haha. I eventually settled on just checking one each week on the day their shipments came in and finally was successful
