# 182 - Congress

Continuing the Modern Commemoratives Dollar series, we will present you today the 1989-S "Congress" graded by PCGS PR70 DCAM.

All coins of this series weight 26.73g with 90% silver purity. They were issued in Proof and Brilliant Uncirculated finish.

They will be presented in the order they were minted.

It was issued to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Congress. The legislative body had first convened under the US Constitution in 1789 in Philadelphia.

The obverse of the coin depicts a full view of Thomas Crawford’s bronze Statue of Freedom, which was placed atop of the Capitol dome in 1863.

On the reverse of the coin is depicted the mace of the House of Representatives. We see a close up view of the staff topped by an eagle on a world globe.

A total of 762,198 coins were minted in San Francisco. The issue price was U$29.00. The actual price is around U$385.00 in this grade.
