# 408 - Some Canadian History - Part 3

in #steemsilvergold5 years ago (edited)

The information below comes from the site of the Canadian Historical Association:
https://cha-shc.ca/english/what-we-do/what-we-do.html

Founded in 1922, the Canadian Historical Association / La Société Historique du Canada is a bilingual not-for-profit and charitable association devoted to fostering the scholarly study and communication of History in Canada.

The CHA pursues a number of academic and professional activities for the benefit of its members; it sponsors a vast array of publications and represents the interests of historians and the heritage community by actively lobbying archives, museums, governments and granting agencies on issues relating to copyright, access to information, academic freedom and public access to historical documents.

A few years ago it issued a series of silver medallions related to the Canadian History.

They weight around 11.6g (0.37oz), have a 92.5% silver purity and Proof finish.

I could not find how many different medallions were issued, but I have 20 of them and they will be shown chronologically.

The third is the 1649 - Destruction of Sainte Marie.

Sainte Marie au pays des Hurons was a French Jesuit settlement in Wendake, the land of the Wendat, near modern Midland, Ontario, from 1639 to 1649. It was the first European settlement in what is now the province of Ontario.

Due to the war between the Wendat and the Haudenosaunee, Jesuits Jean de Brébeuf and Gabriel Lalemant were killed there and later were canonized by the Catholic Church in 1930.

Great looking round, with history. Thanks for sharing ronaldoavelino

It is a very good way to learn a little of Canada's History.

A beautiful medallion for a not so beautiful historical fact.

This collection has many beautiful medallions but there are some historical facts that the only beauty is on the medallion. You will see in a few days.

That is a pretty graphic medallion. Those Jesuits look to be having a very bad day. ☺️

Their day will be hotter than Hell...

Interesting pieces of history, I never ever seen or heard of these medallions before and I come across all kinds of weird stuff at the LCS.

Last year, there was a dealer on Ebay that was selling them individually, auctioning them. I bought only twenty but I could not buy at least another twenty. I could not find any info about the medallions on the internet. I would love to complete the series.

Be careful buying on ebay a lot of fakes, It would be a nice series indeed if they really are silver. Stuff made outside the mint is hard to find info online.

Ebay is almost always a problem. That is why I only buy from dealers that I know for a long time and with no negative reviews.

This page has a list of trusted dealers, many of them have ebay shops too, it's the only ones I buy from even in person. Gate west coins out of Winnipeg is good, I bought a good deal from them when they have good sales. They have a hodge podge of random silver items and medallions.

Thank you. I will check.
