Philadelphia 76ers build gigantic defensive foundation to keep pace at top of the East

While most of the NBA is focused on 'going small', the Philadelphia 76ers have built a gigantic starting line-up whose defensive prowess ensures they will keep pace at the top of the Eastern Conference, writes Mark Deeks.

In Bill Simmons' "The Book of Basketball ", he tells a story about meeting Isiah Thomas, the legendary Detroit Pistons point guard and former executive whom Simmons had previously chastised for the way he managed the New York Knicks.

Wales 20-19 France: Ross Moriarty try seals win over 14-man France

Ross Moriarty's late converted try ensured Wales saw off 14-man France 20-19 to book a Rugby World Cup semi-final place at a fervent Oita Stadium on Sunday.

Les Bleus were forced to play over 30 minutes with 14 men after second row Sebastien Vahaamahina was red carded for a vicious elbow to the face of Aaron Wainwright at a maul nine minutes into the second period.

Hull FC veteran Gareth Ellis signs new deal for 2020 season

Former Great Britain forward Gareth Ellis is to play on into his 40th year after signing a new contract with Hull FC for 2020.

Hull have also continued their recruitment with the addition of former Hull KR utility player Joe Cator, 21, from Leigh on a two-year deal.

Ellis, who will be 39 next May, hung up his boots at the end of 2017 to become Hull's football manager but came out of retirement a fortnight into the 2019 season and helped Lee Radford's team halt a run of 13 consecutive defeats.

Rohit Sharma scores double hundred as India dominate South Africa in Ranchi

Rohit Sharma hit a career-best 212 as India hammered home their advantage over South Africa on day two of the third Test.

SCORECARD | COMMENTARY

The opener has scored three double hundreds in ODI cricket and his first in the longest format helped the hosts to reach 497-9 before declaring in Ranchi. Ajinkya Rahane made 115 in a fourth-wicket partnership of 267 with Rohit.

Ravindra Jadeja added 51, Umesh Yadav smashed five sixes to score 31 from just 10 balls prior to the declaration and after Mohammed Shami had Dean Elgar caught behind with the second ball of the South Africa innings, Yadav removed Quinton de Kock with a snorter in the next over.
