SteemSQL has been massively adopted by a lot of users for analytical processing and even for running bots, apps or dapps.
For some time now, SteemSQL struggle with available disk space in order to keep running. Indeed, it has to manage with an everyday growing amount of data.
The result is that the the database size is now really really close to the storage capacity (RAID with 2 enterprise class 1.2 TB NVMe disks )
Fortunately, I already ordered new 2TB NVMe disks to double the actual storage capacity.
But, in addition to being extremely expensive, these disks are also difficult to obtain. Meantime, I had to remove some indexes and even some non-transactional tables from the database.
The good news is that the drives have finally arrived and I’m now able to upgrade the infrastructure.
SteemSQL will be under maintenance
from 2019-01-26 08:00 UTC until 2019-01-27 22:00 UTC.
Yes, it's almost two full days, but there is a lot to do and the amount of data to handle is quite substantial.
This maintenance will have the following impact:
- SteemSQL server will stay available but might not be as responsive as usual.
- Loss of connection may occur.
- SteemSQL might be out of sync with the blockchain from time to time. You can check SteemSQL status on this page
If ever the maintenance would require less time, I will let you know.
Any communication and support related to this maintenance will be done on SteemSQL’s channel on steem.chat
With this major upgrade, SteemSQL should be ready to face the grow of the Steem blockchain for a long time. Except if the blockchain activity goes to the moon, and it's the least we can hope for.
