Mutation results from errors during DNA replication or carcinogens which may cause an error during replication

Mutation may produce discernable characteristics of an organism. An example being the change in eye colour .

Eye colour is a polygenic phenotypic character .In humans , the pigmentation of the iris varies depending on the concentration of melanin

Eye colors are also affected by genetics .There is a possibility of a black-eyed parents to give birth to a blue-eyed child .Though the cases are rare and chances slim, it is made possible through genetics

The genetics of eye colour are complicated , and colour determined by multiple genes . So far , as many as 15 genes have been associated with eye colour inheritance .The genetics of eye colour are so complex that almost any parent-child combination of eye colours can occur.
