[DTube] Linear systems - 3 Intersecting Planes - No unique solutions

in #steemstem5 years ago (edited)

I'm in the process of uploading all of my Youtube videos to DTube, where they can be recorded on the Steem blockchain.

In this video, we solve a linear system of equations for 3 planes:

5x + 2y + 11z = 45
2x - y + 5z = 15
-3x + 3y + az = b

and determine the values for a and b, such that we have

  1. No unique solutions in the system (i.e. the planes do not meet at a point)
  2. A infinite number of solutions (i.e. the planes share a common intersecting line)
  3. No solutions (i.e. the planes do not share a common intersecting line)

This is question 2 from the AQA MFP4 June 2017 Paper.

Thanks for watching. Please give me a "thumbs up" if you have found this video helpful.

Please ask me a maths question by commenting below and I will try to help you in future videos.
