It is! We’ll likely see the last ever case of polio in the next 5 years.

It can, but the 1 in around 3 million chance of vaccine derived polio from the oral vaccine is now too big of a risk (as we still need to vaccinate every child that is born). And the fact that the vaccine derived polio can also be passed from between children means that just to wrap up all the loose ends we now use the interventions vaccine. Its a challange but the global system of vaccine delivery already acheives the coverage needed with the measles vaccine so its definitely doable.
