SteemSTEM Distilled #55

in #steemstem6 years ago

Welcome to the 55th issue of SteemSTEM Distilled, a bi-weekly curation effort by the members of the @steemstem team.

SteemSTEM is a community driven project which seeks to promote well-written and informative Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics posts on Steemit. The project involves curating STEM-related posts through upvoting, resteeming, offering constructive feedback, supporting scientific contests, and other related activities.

For more details, a recent update on the steemSTEM can be found here, and a not so recent one there. Moreover, if you ask yourself about what it means to be part of steemSTEM, please check here.

Our team scours the platform for original and quality content.

After working through thousands (literally!) of STEM-related posts and upvoting more than 150 that we deemed to be worthy, we proudly present you our top 6 handpicked choices for this Monday-Wednesday period.

Monday

An Airplane's Flight Mechanism | Fallacies And Truth Revealed | How the plane lifts off the ground

A beautiful post by @synick that explains the science behind airplanes. Read it if you want to unveil the mystery of lift-off and defying gravity!

Journey through the understanding of particle physics - One

@irelandscape has given us a wonderful post to help us "digest" the basics of particle physics. Following @lemouth's series, he tries to break it down to us. This series is perfect for those of you who find complex physics concepts hard to follow.

Tuesday

The Seven Wonders Of The Ancient World: The Mausoleum (A Big Fat Tomb In A Land Called Halicarnassus)

An amazing trip back in time is showing us the Seven Wonders of the Ancien World! This part is all about the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus. Don't miss this post by @aurackle (and make sure you catch up with the past episodes of the series).

BOTULISM: A Kiss of Death

A true life experience inspired this post. Read how @alphajeez met the botulinum toxin and was lucky to survive. Oh! And next time you consume canned food, be cautious ;)

Wednesday

Environmental impact of urban life on watershed

An interesting environmental post by @prettyprecy that discusses the importance and function of the watershed. Don't miss this one!

Difficulties inside the Operating System (concurrent programming, mutual exclusion, critical section and Deadlock)

And our last pick for today comes from @noble-noah and it's a great programming post about concurrent programming; the benefits and drawbacks of it. If you are into computers, you should read it!

A few words about the nomination process

For the sake of transparency we feel we need to clarify how our nomination process works; each issue is compiled by certain members of the SteemSTEM community. This mid-week's editorial team was comprised of @ruth-girl.

The editorial team chooses their favorite posts for the week and each issue is the result of their joined effort. In order to keep the process fair, posts written by the editorial team are excluded from the nomination process.

Don't be discouraged if you didn't make it on this issue. The competition is harsh and there is always a next time :)

Sort:

Congratulations to all author (as well as to all community members for their engagement)! :)

Some very unique posts this issue. Congrats to all!

We had great choices, that's true!

What a great idea, I didn't know you guys existed but I am all for a page that takes the time to look for real, original, helpful content on Steemit! We need more people doing what you are so that this platform is a destination for all things informational and exciting! :)

Obviously follow and an upvote from me!

Its a rather large team. It takes a lot to find good content and foster a community atmosphere.

Well keep it up because groups like you is why Steemit is growing in popularity! I joined a few months ago and I had heard amazing things about quality of content that can be found with little effort. Groups or people that take the time to compile lists of great pages are the real heroes because it is a one stop shop for all things interesting!

Compiling those lists is not that easy. Believe it or not, we are supporting about 200 posts per week those days, and sometimes we would like to shed light on more than just a dozen of them a week.

With this respect, the future is however promising. But I won't say more... for now ;)

Well I am excited for what the future brings! ;)

Steemstem doesn't just compile the lists, there is sizeable voting help from a variety of places that allows the project to get the good content some rewards as well. Its not just about making a list, but also about keeping the good content coming from users who truly work hard and do great.

I love it! Finding those accounts that truly care about their work and what they are posting is what continues to make this place great. Votes from accounts like this keeps those authors encouraged and makes those authors challenge themselves to put original content that helps to boost the community!

Is there a verification process or a place to submit a blog for review to join this list?

Asking for a friend of course

Tell you friend to include the steemstem tag. Then we may find out, or not :)

Congratulations to all handpicked authors!
Respect to all curators and management members for their efforts!

Great work once again @ruth-girl!

Thanks @eurogee! Your comments and engagement are always appreciated!

Cool distilled is out. Congratulations to all the authors. @prettyprecy and @noble-noah . Congratulations. All authors your work are really and exceptionally unique. @ruth-girl well done for your relentless effort in giving us these posts. @lemouth thanks very much. To all authors let's keep on doing good job

The pleasure is for us, you know that :D

Congratulations to everyone listed this week. :-)

I have a question. Is it okay to post youtube videos in my steemstem post? That would simplify a lot of things for me, and for the readers.

I have nothing against it. Except that I won't watch them personally. I am a reading person :)

That clarifies things. The videos aren't my property to be shown as a part of my posts but I only wanted to give one particular video as a reference. That's not required any more since they have their own website. Thanks a lot for the reply though.

It is not because I personally don't watch them that the other curators won't. However, is the post is about videos that are not yours, it is clear you won't get any support from us. Now, if the video illustrates something covered in the post, then it is another story.

I hope this clarifies.

Thanks...

Excellent hand picked articles @ruth-girl!

Congratulations to everybody!

Thank you @dedicatedguy! I hope you enjoyed them! :D

Congratulations to all this authors

Kudos to all the brain behind the scene

Thanks a lot and kudos! :D

Congrats to all author that receive upvote. Welldone all.

Thank you!

Congrats to all authors, awesome posts!!

Thank you! Enjoy reading!

Congrats again to all of steemstem, and specially @ruth-girl. Steemstem has really added integrity to the steemit community, and not just that. Facts and fictions about science have be unveiled by many of our authors, which consequently provides simplified knowledge to readers.

Thanks for this message! We are trying to be as fair as possible. Mistakes are of course possible, but we do our best to make as few of them as possible :)

Your welcome, and that's completely true, man isn't above mistakes. But we can try to be.

Wow.. A very big thanks to the steemSTEM community and @ruth-girl. Thanks for the privilege and counting me worthy. I am grateful indeed

We thank you all for contributing! :D

Is it me or are there not many mathematics posts?

This is true. However, to select math posts, we need to find them first... .;)

Perhaps I write one. But first I need to read how steemstem fully works.

And to be honest I don't think my post will really add a lot of value. It will just be a simple real life example of complementary chances.

Well, if there are somehow steemy, you may get something :) The best way to find how we work is to join us on discord.

Congrats to the authors, nice one guys, keep doing more wonderful articles.

Another great selection @ruth-girl. I like that @synick's post the most, also that @aurackle's post too.

Thanks a lot @menoski! Stay tuned for tomorrow ;)

Congratulations to everyone contributing to the stem community and nice work by the one-girl curation team. 😀😀😀

When I read @alphajeez's post, I knew it was going to be on distilled. I really learnt a lot from it.

Congrats to all the authors. I'll read up the ones I'm yet to read.

It was a very good post! :D

Wow, A big congratulations to all the featured authors. And to our able administrators, Kudos to you guys.
Cheers steemstem

Well done to the steemSTEM crew.

Thank you! Keep steeming! :)

Congratulations to all the authors for consistently putting forward great content.

Thank you! Everyone's support is welcome and much appreciated! :D

Really diverse topics this time. As others have said, standard of posts is going up ( not that it wasn't good before) and this is one community on Steemit that is really growing

We try. But sometimes it is hard, this is true, as we can only select from what we have ;)

Yes, I think some days there's a lot of great posts, other days very few. But the voting power is always at the same rate. I will have to study it and work out the optimum time to post:)

We are trying to use 100% of the weekly available VP. Some days we vote more, some days we vote less. But in average, we spent everything :)

this is one of my favorite curations on the platform. quality posts and no bullshit. <3

Thanks for the nice compliment! :)

A job well done to the whole team.

Thanks for your nice message! :)

It's my pleasure.

Good work
