The steemSTEM Honor Members

in #steemstem6 years ago (edited)

If you're not someone who has joined very recently, you should have seen our post about taking a break and, shortly after, rebooting steemSTEM. About a month has passed since then, and we're ready to give you an update on one of the most important changes: The Honor Members.

Honor Members are members of steemSTEM who, after being assigned the role by the management team, voluntarily help improve the community. For this, there are three different categories:

The Mentors

You might have encountered them by now. The mentor team is scouting posts in the steemSTEM tag and offering advice on copyright, structure and generally improving STEM posts. They also take on individual mentees if the need arises.

The mentors are not curators, so while they can explain how a post can be improved and lend a helping hand, they are not able to guarantee anyone upvotes. Their advice, however, should not be ignored, as they help us keep track of users that cause trouble for the community.

Over the past month, mentors have becomean integral part of steemSTEM and continue to go beyond all expectations on a daily basis.

The Engagement Officers

A community isn't a community if everyone is just sitting their with their own posts, waiting for upvotes. That was the original problem which made us take a break: People not caring about the community.

While you can sometimes see engagement officers give feedback on posts too, their main job is to faciliate interactions between community members. Comments on other's posts and upvotes inside the community are desired, someone who doesn't participate at all isn't helping the community move forward.

One of the most important tasks the engagement officers do on a weekly basis is checking up on those, who receive the highest votes from @steemstem (the list is usually published in the "steemSTEM Distilled" on Thursdays). Those who receive a lot of monetary support should also be those, who are an active part of the community.

Engagement over several weeks is tracked. In case one high voted member barely interacts outside their own posts (or not even on their own!), the highest maximal vote they can possibly receive is reduced. This does not mean they are blacklisted! Good content will still be rewarded, just not as much as it would be if said steemSTEM members engaged more. If engagement with the community increases, the highest maximal vote goes up again too.

Complaints Room Moderators

The steemSTEM discord server has a channel called "complaints-room". If you feel like you're being unfairly treated or that steemSTEM is doing something wrong, please head over to that room and state your complaints. One of the moderators will help you.

Please do not message individual management members or curators with your complaints! Really use that room!

If you have an issue that is not directly related to steemSTEM (account is not being confirmed, your account has been stolen, ...), please join the #help room on steem.chat and seek assistance there.

Our Honor Members so far

Here's a full list of our current honor members (names as they appear on discord) and their respective tasks (M = Mentor, E = Engagement Officer, C = Complaints Room Moderator):

Want to become a Honor Member?

If you want to become an honor member, there are some things you should be aware of:

  • There's no preferential treatment when it comes to upvotes. Honor members, just like everyone else (including management!) need to write good STEM posts if they want a @steemstem vote
  • While we don't expect honor members to work 24/7, constant absence without reason (announced "normal life" reasons like exams, child birth, vacations and sick time are totally fine) will lead to the exclusion from the honor member program
  • Honor members are the backbone of our community and thus serve as role models. You will have to act like it

If you're aware of these things and still want to apply, send a DM on discord to @suesa (Suesa#4095) with an explanation why you'd like to become part of the team.

The Beginning

Aside from the creation of the honor system, we are excited for the growth and health of our whole team and community, and even more so for our near-future projects. We are slowly building something that will create a unique experience on the Steem blockchain, so follow us and join our Discord for more information!

Sort:

Why are we really promoting only good content:

  • good content brings more votes to the author
  • good content motivates others to write and ideas are spread
  • good content appears in Google searches, bringing others here
  • authors writing such content tend to help the community, which in turn helps others produce more good content
  • all the above contribute to the increase of the Steem token value, which means our growth is multiplied and multilateral
  • good content is like a business card for your account and wallet. Respect is always earned.
  • keep in mind that we are the forerunners of Steem, you have the chance of being one of the established authors here.

Write, have fun, talk to other enlightened people and enjoy your growing wallet. Not all gratification is instant and not everyone thinks about what I have just told you.

I will always advise and talk to anyone wanting to better themselves.

Well said @alexdory.
Joining this community is the best for me so far.
I am so glad I found steemstem.
Thank you so much for your sincere help so far

Very nice summary! :)

You've said it all @alexdory, keep up the great work! Your efforts are appreciated!

Good talk buddy

Wow! I am really glad with what the Steemstem management team came up with to tackle the issue of engagement. Great decisions. This is going to work!

I would like to take the opportunity to explain why I significantly slowed down posting purely scientific articles on Steemstem, and also why I currently interact much less with the community. It is temporary. The main reason is: exams. I am a private teacher in Physics (last years of high school), and am quite submerged by the increasing requests for support by my students: for me, this period of the year is really peak time, and my students are my number 1 priority.

Add to this the @openschool initiative (the lessons to Nigeria), and the complex work in attempting to make it grow by creating new links between teachers (I Steemtem tagged some of these posts because they actually contain science lessons, and I know there are some teachers here in or community).

And also, it is spring. The two gardens I handle need me more than ever: Nature does not wait!

Yet, by mid-June (maybe beginning July, if I go on a holiday I really need before that), I will be back, and super Steemstem active! There is the particle Physics / antimatter series to complete with a lot of exciting things to talk about: For example, the next article, which I had to interrupt preparing for the reasons mentioned above, dives into the CPT theorem. And there is a next series in the back of my mind, that will explore the multiverse, in all beautiful diversity!

I also miss reading and learning these fascinating scientific views from other member with a warm cup of tea, and discuss away in the comments (That, I miss!)

When the time comes, I will most probably apply for a ‘mentor’ position. Being a teacher, and blogger, I think I can help the blooming of scientific minds by showing them how to format a post so it becomes sweet to read for the reader. I noticed sometimes some good content, but hard to read (a big block of text with no paragraphs or pictures). I have set up a nice video system for the many live lessons I give to my students, so I could make video posts about this too if required.

All that said, I am glad to see that this community is moving forward. I remember reading the ‘taking a break’ post. Steemstem appeared in crisis. This was a needed shake up to keep the spirit alive, and in my opinion, it has resulted in the right steps forward!

Hi @muphy! Thanks a lot for keeping us informed. This is very kind from you! Also, note that there is no problem in being busy with other stuff. We all have a life beyond steem and sometimes it takes over :)

Please take your time and I am looking forward for your come back!

Cheers!

Thank you @lemouth :-). My fingers can't wait to guide Steemstemians into new fascinating realms.
It's really nice to know that the scientific voyages I will post will be welcome when I come back on a regular basis. I might be able to slip one or two articles until then though ;-). Be well!

I just stumbled onto @steemstem and can't wait to start getting involved!

followed/upvoted/resteemed

Best wishes for the community..!! 🙌

Together we can build STEM enthusiast community in steem blockchain..! And hopefully bring good values to this platform by supporting qualiry articles..! ✌

Yep, a community means many people :)

we are growing big..!!! 🙌
hopefully more people will be involved in future days..! ☺

Does it mean more work? Let's see. I just hope the amount of work will stay humanly-manageable ;)

I just love steemstem! I know many of you can relate! I just love this wonderful community of ours!

Stay engaged, creative and kind!

Much love to you all! You're like my new family even though I've never met anyone of you in real life! You're my friends! I wake up and sign in to discord to say 'good morning'!!

That says it all!

Hehehe! Lovely message. I just hope too much love won't kill us. I could not resist as your message tiggered this song in my mind for no reason :D

Huhuhu! Thanks for the positive, kind, lovely response :P
What a banger by the way! (I use this word for all sorts of great songs) Gotta let my neighbours know! if you know what I mean

This time, I don't know what you mean :(

I will play this loud enough so that everyone in the neighborhood learns to appreciate quality music :p

I can't hear you... louder please :D

First of all, it is an honor to be part of the steemSTEM community. I believe this idea will only get better, as it has been seen to increase the level of engagement amongst members of the community, while at the same time created an avenue to extend help and assistance for a better post creation.
Go steemSTEM !!

Yeah, so far this initiative is a 100% positive one! I am very glad it works.

Yeah, it can only get better sir

totally!

Such an honor to be a part of this team. We are the community and we are responsible for its growth and by “we” I mean everyone, not just the honor members.

Together we stand !

Go steemstem !

congrats man. i had no idea this fcuker was on steemit

Thank you. You seem to know me. Who are you tho ? 😄 Maybe you can reach out to me on discord @kingabesh

From afar tho. M2 Presidential Hostel. Yh, will ping on discord

We are also glad to have you :)

Its a good feeling to know that the community is moving forward and "learning from the past". I am proud to be a part of the team.

To other steemstem authors, engagement is key! You don't have to be an engagement officer before you can drop comments on the posts of other authors or check on them in the discord server. Lets do this for the community!

Cheers!

We need to move on and learn. Otherwise, why bothers? The future is beyond us!

This is a very nice development for #steemSTEM as this will enhance more knowledge based on learning and teaching more about science technology engineering and mathematics.

For me, the above-mentioned names have been playing a huge contribution to the community so they are going to deliver well to steemSTEM.

Shoutout to the management and all the honor members of Steemstem! Cheers for working on building an interactive Science community & for promoting quality content in the blockchain. 😊

We are just a bunch of people trying to do something great here :)

Yes we are. I am always positive that it would make a great difference. 😊

I love these ideas. Proving once again that when there's desire to move forward- there's always a way to do it.
Best of luck to all the Honor Members, as their tasks are not easy to do.

#SteemSTEM

Not easy! But they consist in a great team! I am sure they will manage!

No doubt about it, @lemouth. After all, they are all a part of this great community and that's not a coincidence :)

Yep, there were wisely chosen :)

I am super excited to be part of this project on steemit. Makes all my time on here worthwhile. I am just in love with steemstem

You also invest a lot personally, as all of us, to make it working! :)

Exactly. It makes all my time here meaningful and I’m a proud member of the community. Introduction of the mentors was quite a move...it made the newbies feel quite in touch with the community and also understand the basics of creating good and quality content. When I joined steemstem this wasn’t in existence and it took me quite a while to understand how the community works and how to better my writing and create quality content. Above all this was made a bit easier for me by @gentleshaid. Thank you and thank you team @steemstem
We would only get better!

All honor members should be acknowledged for the great job that they are doing. Very friendly and easy to talk to as well as extremely helpful in my time of counselling and need. Well done on the excellent job ladies and gents! (:

The community is so organised. Mentors are really great too. I have always find great advice and they are so nice in dealing with us common members. I'm still learning the art of writing good post and hope to improve with great mentors, one discord message away.

Mentors indeed help us in taking care of things we cannot handle (because of too much work). e are happy to have them!

This can be called as the evolution of #steemSTEM for more efficiency with the helping hands to support more and more number of authors and guide them to write a new level of quality STEM. 😊

Indeed this is going to make #SteemSTEM family and all the new authors related to it to get more organized and efficient. 😇

Great work always saluted...

#SteemSTEM _rocks!! 👍

Note that having a mentor does not guarantee a vote. Mentors and curators are independent (this was not clear from your comment).

Thanks for adding this @lemouth! :)

And it just keep getting better :)

This is a huge step to a great community on the steemit blockchain, managers for quality and interesting contents, engagement, assistance, there is no other place to be. Am proud to be a member of this huge advancement in the world of STEM . Go SteemSTEM

Thanks for passing by! The more we are, the more fun we will have ^^

#Steemstem is undoubtedly one of the fastest growing communities in steemit. All these great achievements, and we haven't even reached the top yet!. Imagine what being at the top would be like. Am really proud to be a member of this community.

Fastest growing I am not sure, but the core of it grows for sure. It is just not clear to me at this stage how we will be able to consolidate all those who lie at the peripheral. But at least we try and this program helps.

Another great development, I'm proud to be a part of the family. Like @rharphelle said, you don't have to be a honor member to make a change.
. Engagement is actually for your improvement, you learn through reading and network more.

Happy family member. Welldone to all of the @steemstem management, it's fabulous, what you guys are doing.

Everyone can make a change if ones tries. I really hope to see more and more people trying in the future!

It's great to see that there are so many Honor Members already! I have already interacted with a few of them, and looking forward to getting to know the rest of you :) Thanks to all of you for doing the hard work that helps the STEM community grow and thrive!

Don't hesitate! They will be more than happy ^^

That's good to hear. But the next time you guys write about all the Honor Members, then you might want to include the @ before their name, so it will be a lot easier to check out their profiles ;)

nnaaaahhhhh... We need you guys to make some effort as well ;)

The new outlook of the SteemStem community is really amazing, I am proud to be a member of this amazing family.

This is a welcome development, particularly for newbies still trying to make their way around the SteemStem group.

Thanks so much.

You're welcome :) it's important for the community to stick together

One of the most important tasks the engagement officers do on a weekly basis is checking up on those, who receive the highest votes from @steemstem (the list is usually published in the "steemSTEM Distilled" on Thursdays). Those who receive a lot of monetary support should also be those, who are an active part of the community.

This is my favorite thing that has been implemented. It's extra incentive to be that much more involved in the community and I'm hoping this is actually working.

The #steemstem honors members are great people and this initiative will definitely help keep the community straight and help make it an actually engaged community.

I am totally agreeing with what you said! I am very curious to see how things will develop themselves on the long run :)

You guys are the best......with this kind of initiative, steem is sure to reach and attain excellence

thanks to all members of the honor who has helped me a lot in making quality posts

Wao.... This is wonderful

I have a mentors and his name is on the list
Go STEEMstem

It's an honor to be part of the great community
The community has really helped my science knowledge and research abilities

Thanks

You shouldn’t be having two mentors man. From the records, PearlUmie is your mentor and you should try to work exclusively with him. Thanks for your cooperation in anticipation.

Thanks for the correction

And am sticking to him

Wow.... Honour member.. This is amazing.
Its amazing how much growth is going on here. Weldone guyz. Joining discord now

We're looking forward to seeing you around!

I made a post about Science few days ago and I used the tag, #steemstem, buh I guess it wasnt seen

Using the tag doesnt guarantee anyone an automatic upvote. What have you done to deserve upvote from steemstem. I will wait for your answer.

Awwwww... First of all, I'm glad you replied. Well I really dont understand the question though. Buh let me just say I dnt think I've done anything spectacular. I only made a post and use the tag.

There are guidelines to follow for your post be eligible for steemstem upvote. Join our discord channel and see how you can help the community as well as get rewarded in term of upvotes

Post are manually curated and chosen for upvotes according to our guidelines, which you can find here and here

I'm really happy you replied. Thanks so much. I'll read the rules now

You are welcome @oredebby, SteemStem community is looking for an informative post from a committed member to curate, just follow our guidelines. Wish you best.

This is one of the best discord platform among many that run on top of steemblockchain.I am impressed by the way everything is organized.
I seriously need a mentor to refine my talent so that it will be worthy enough to be embraced by people.

You have it all, just check the list and message anyone with the task (M) from the list.

This is great development and i am hoping to be listed soon. Keep the good work @steemstem

great work by this community and wish you good luck

Is this SteemSTEM different from the steemit platform?

SteemSTEM is a community on the Steem blockchain. Steemit is a platform on said blockchain, just like busy.org, dtube, dlive, ...

OK thanks please.

I like this steemit, I appreciate your post.
Thanks for sharing this post.

This is wonderful.. Coming out to show the entire community about our wonderful mini community here on steemit.
Well done to all honor members i hope to be one someday.
Keep the flag flying high.

We are not so mini :D

Well i was looking at steemit general as the mother community.. We are just a sub community.
Thats what i meant 🤐

Plenty of steemSTEM members are actually pretty tall, at least the ones I met :P

Hehehe.. 🤣🤣🤣

I would love to meet the tall ones especially the ones that look like basketball players.

This is not me. I am more on the minimouth scale :D

Upvoted! I hope your project will grow bigger.

Feels good to be part of this great community. I must confess, you guys are exceptional on the steem blockchain. Kudos to the management!

Thanks a lot for the nice comment towards us! But please don't forget the curators ;)

Well, I believe they are part of the management...😀😀😀😀

No they are not. The management consists only in 5 people. Curators are not concerned. We have on top of the management 4 general curators and 8 community curators.

Oh, forgive my ignorance. I used to think we could class them as part of the management but now i know that is a misconception.

Thanks for the clarification.

Congratulations to The steemSTEM Honor Members!. I will work hard @steemstem to one day appear on a list like this.
Regards.

Hello! I just find this community. You promote architectural content? I post about that and if you do, I would use your tag to let you see my posts. I'll be reading. :)

This depends. If to content is more towards science and technology (which is possible with architecture), then yes. If it is more on the side if arts (which is also possible with architecture), then no.

I hope this clarifies.

Yes! thank you.

You are welcome! :)

I am waiting for you in my blog, thank you

This is not how it works...

I am fully on board with this ..."One of the most important tasks the engagement officers do on a weekly basis is checking up on those, who receive the highest votes from @steemstem (the list is usually published in the "steemSTEM Distilled" on Thursdays). Those who receive a lot of monetary support should also be those, who are an active part of the community."

However, as a relatively new member of the @steemstem community, can I ask a dumb question .... what is considered being an "active part of the community"? Should I be aiming for 10, 20 .. 50 replies/comments/questions and upvotes (where appropriate) per day on @steemstem posts? What is a reasonable target number?

There is no target and we contact the different users if there is any issue. As there are many ways to engage, it is difficult to tell. In any case, there is no quantitative assessment of the engagement. it is more a qualitative one that matters. I know I didn't answer the question, but I have actually no answer :)

Thank you @lemouth, I thought I should ask as I wondered if #steemstem had set up guidelines that I was not aware of. I fully appreciate that quality of engagement is more important than quantity.

We really prefer to work on a case by case basis here. Much easier and more appropriate.

I have tried to write a post about health, if memenang for all members can enter my blog, if good I will continue it, thanks if I can become a member of this great community.....

I beg your pardon? "memenang" ?

Haha. This is good enough for us all as a community.
I will say that after the break, the community has improved seriously. Engagement of all members have improved too. Well done to all the honoured member. We will all do this work together, it's a collective responsibility of everyone.

Of course, once you lay your standards, people will surely follow it.

Awesome post. I am an Engineer...I am glad to meet such brilliant minds here too. I have been searching for this community!

You are welcome on board @peacezo, consider joining #steemSTEM on discord here.

Nice works this is awesome community who care about their members really... Will be glad to join the community in posting good content relating to scientific..

Re-steemed to others to see..

Thanks for the resteem (and I guess for your future contributions ;) )

Thanks for your reply
I did contributed by making use of steemstem tag in my post yesterday.. I could see some community member dropped their comments.

I am very happy for the work done by the honorable members, really your work is impressive

Note that your own work is as appreciated :)

Thank you very much for your words :)

Thanks for this update, it will keep authors on check when they have any ish.

That is why we call it a community, we are steemSTEM and we need to engage ourselves in the community.

We are a TEAM; Together Everyone Achieves More!

I like the last sentence of your comment. Very cool and interesting acronym ;)

Thank you sir.

Good work... glad to be part of community who promoted good content, and appreciate author with nice vote to encourage them and to encourage others too.. which help others community too.. very great.

Oh cool. Now i know more about steemSTEM. After Curie, i like steemSTEM next. Hehe.

I don't have Discord though so steem.chat is fine for me. I see suesa there from time to time too.
