Los insectos voladores siguen siendo mi tema preferido por los momentos, tal vez se deba a que la temporada de lluvia entró fuertemente en algunas regiones del país y resulta sorprendente cuando vemos algunas abejas, moscas y avispas cerca de nuestro jardín, sitio preferido para realizar el pícnic de los fines de semana.
> Flying insects continue to be my favorite subject at the moment, perhaps because the rainy season has entered strongly in some regions of the country and it is surprising when we see some bees, flies and wasps near our garden, favorite place to have a picnic on weekends.
En esta oportunidad tuve la suerte de fotografiar una avispa que parecía desorientada y se movía, literalmente, caminando de un sitio a otro. Al llegar a un extremo de su recorrido se limpiaba la cabeza y tocaba sus antenas con el par de patas delanteras, tal vez con la finalidad de "olfatear" el terreno por el que se ha desplazado.
> On this occasion I was lucky enough to photograph a wasp that seemed disoriented and was literally walking from one place to another. When it reached one end of its path it would wipe its head and touch its antennae with its front pair of legs, perhaps with the purpose of "sniffing" the ground through which it has been moving.
El susto mayor fue cuando un par de avispas con el abdomen amarillo, las llamadas avispas amarillas, de la Familia Vespidae, se posaron sobre un trozo de carne y pollo asado que tenía sobre me plato de comida. Recuerdo cuando sufrí dos pinchazos de abejas y una picadura de avispa en toda mi vida y lo doloroso y traumático que resultaron ser esos 3 eventos.
> The biggest scare was when a pair of wasps with yellow abdomens, the so-called yellow jackets, of the Family Vespidae, landed on a piece of meat and roast chicken I had on my plate of food. I remember when I suffered two bee stings and one wasp sting in my entire life and how painful and traumatic those 3 events turned out to be.
Estas especies de insectos Himenópteros se destacan por un veloz vuelo con sus alas membranosas y en ocasiones suele verse en posición estática en el aire, muy parecido a un helicóptero, situación en la cual avista su objetivo, comida o presa viva. Este insecto volador es nativo de la zona mediterránea (Europa, África y Asia), pero ha sido introducido en varias regiones del continente americano y forma parte de las especies invasoras.
> These species of Hymenoptera insects are characterized by a fast flight with their membranous wings and are sometimes seen in a static position in the air, very similar to a helicopter, a situation in which they spot their target, food or live prey. This flying insect is native to the Mediterranean area (Europe, Africa and Asia), but has been introduced in several regions of the American continent and is part of the invasive species.
Su nombre científico es Vespula germanica, de la Familia Vespidae, posee franjas y manchas combinadas entre negro y amarillo, mientras que sus antenas son segmentadas y las usa como sensores de olor. Sus hábitos alimenticios son variados y algunas veces las podemos ver en su rol de polinizador buscando el néctar de las flores, depredando pulgones y mosquitos, mientras que en otras oportunidades tienen instinto carroñero comiéndose mis carnes de res y pollo.
> Their scientific name is Vespula germanica, of the Vespidae family, has stripes and spots combined between black and yellow, while their antennae are segmented and used as scent sensors. Their feeding habits are varied and sometimes we can see them in their role of pollinator looking for the nectar of flowers, predating aphids and mosquitoes, while at other times they have scavenging instinct eating my beef and chicken.
En estas fotografías se destacan las secciones anatómicas de la avispa amarilla: cabeza, tórax y amplio abdomen, además de sus alas membranosas características del Orden Himenóptero.
