STEMng Digest: Lessons will be learned

in #stemnglast year
Authored by @gentleshaid

As I am composing this edition of STEMng digest, Nigerian presidential election is ongoing. In other words, all the enthusiasms that people have been displaying towards their preferred candidates will finally be put into votes today, and the winner will be known in the coming days.

In the build up to the election, so many ugly events happened in real life and on social media. There were violence, murder, social media insults and curses. Even though I have no preferred candidate and will not be voting (I do have my PVC, by the way), I have been cursed and insulted for having an opinion for or against some candidates.

Whatever happens in the election, lessons will be learned.

Welcome to a new edition of STEMng Digest.

Who are we?

STEMng is the Nigerian sub-community of the stemsocial community, a community that has been supporting stem authors on the hive blockchain for about four years now. While stemsocial focuses on everyone irrespective of their country, STEMng is specifically for Nigerians. The best stem contents published by Nigerians on the Hive blockchain are highlighted weekly.

Below are the posts that made it into our digest for this week:

  1. @jsalvage: Cell communication and signaling

I personally like this topic a lot. The human body is made up of millions of cells. It would be a stark ignorance to think that these cells will not communicate to bring about the functionalities that make us living organisms. How these cells communicate remains a major area of research by scientists. However, the little gains that have been made were highlighted in this post. Quite an educative piece of write-up.

2.@medicvibes: Sleep disorders in Nigeria (Abstract)
For the past few days now, I usually wake up all of a sudden in the middle of the night and find it difficult to sleep back until after some hours. It probably means I am suffering from some forms of sleep disorder. This article bordering around the sleep disorder topic could not have been more fitting for me to read. Perhaps you have no business with sleep disorder, being educated on the topic might help in the nearest future.

3.@sam9999: The potential of Functional Rehabilitation With the Expertise of Physiotherapists
If you have ever had a major bone or nerve-related issues or surgery, you will have an idea of how functional rehabilitation is important for full recovery. With poor post-surgery functional rehabilitation, one may suffer major body defect for the rest of their life. The potential that these rehabilitation have in gaining full recovery and the importance of Physiotherapists in achieving them is what is discussed in this article.

4.@cyprianj: Wait, the remnant of your apple changed colour to rusty brown; Ever cared to know why?
An apple a day keeps the doctor away. Perhaps not when you eat a half-eaten apple that have been left exposed to air for a while. Apart from the fact that the color will have changed to dark brown, you may also be deriving yourself the necessary nutrient that ought to function in your body. Read the article to understand more.

5.@nattybongo: Understanding Visual Acuity
When you visit an optometrist for issues relating to your eye or vision, you are likely to get tested for visual acuity. This test inculcate a lot of terms and figures that may not make sense to a layman. In this post, our eye doctor broke the topic down in such a way that visual acuity can be understood by a 10 year old.

And that ends our selections for this week. Do not forget to give the featured posts/authors your maximum support. Thank you in advance.

If you are a content creator on Hive and wondering how you can participate in the community, all you need to do would to:
