Stemng Digest: Week 13

in #stemng8 years ago

Welcome to the 13th episode of the stemng digest series where we bring to you some of the best posts under the #stemng tag in the past week.

For the benefit of those that are yet to know, stemng is a sub-community of steemSTEM, a community-driven project which seeks to promote well-written and informative Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics posts by Nigerians on Steemit. The project involves submitting quality STEM-related posts to the steemSTEM management for upvoting and resteeming where applicable.

More information about stemng activities can be found here, while details of what it means to be part of steemSTEM can be found here, as well.

As we usually do, we have rummaged through the stemng tag and even though there were several good posts to choose from, below are the posts that stood out for this last week.

Saturday: Pressure and forces of fluids in motion. --- The aerofoil and Nature's adaptation for flight in birds.

Watching animal's documentary on NGW is not as interesting as reading @pangoli's post on animals. A combination of physics and biology used to explain the flight of aeroplane and then extrapolated on the flight of birds. It has been a while I personally read something so fascinating. A good read I would recommend to anyone.

Sunday: Perfect Millennials and Why it is Making Them Anxious and Depressed

This post from @churchboy speaks volume to a lot of youths, especially in Nigeria. I am quite glad this kind of post came from Nigeria. We live in era of social media and a lot of people continue to grow discontented with their lives simply because of what they see on social media. The psychological aspect was well analysed. I really enjoyed this one and I think every social media person should take a look.

Monday: The caburetor and the injector; the past and the present

For anyone that has been going through steemstem/stemng tag recently, a lot of posts have been written on operation of the car engines. This post is one of the examples. Well written and simplified, easy for a layman to understand. A lot of us have cars or have using cars but do not know anything about the caburetor and the injector. Grab something chilled and exercise your brain with this beautifully written post from @rharphelle

Tuesday: Pack your Bags! Get Ready! The world is going Digital - A look into the concepts of VR, AR and MR

The entertainment industry has so much advanced that there is very little to discern reality from pseudo-reality scenes while watching films or playing games. This post about virtual reality, augmented reality and mixed reality came from @mrbreeziewrites and he tried to explain a lot about each phenomenon and how each has found wider applications in our everyday life. A good read.

Wednesday: The Magic of Echolocation

!
There is no doubts that some animals, including humans have weird abilities as far as layman is concerned. Imagine being able to detect the location of something just by echo? Well, thats echolation. As a biologist, I know about the ability of bats in using echo to detect the location of pitcher plants for their accomodation but I never knew this ability is not peculiar to bats only. This post from @bitfairy actually taught me a lot. It was indeed a magic but this time around, not of echolation

Thursday: CHEMISTRY AND METABOLISM OF BIOMOLECULES #1: INTRODUCTION (CARBOHYDRATES: MONOSACCHARIDES AND DISACCHARIDES)

For those that are conversant with biology, there are some molecules that are indispensable to life's existence. In actual fact, these molecules are precursors to life, that is they came into existence before life could came about. They are called biomolecules. Do you know what they are? Feel free to visit @kingabesh's blog to educate yourself about these biomolecules. A good read for everyone.

Friday: The world we live in and The Technology we rely upon..

There is no doubt that majority of humans, if not all depend largely on technology. Over the years, social media have become part and parcel of our lives and some cannot do anything without social media. The recent saga trailing the breach of privacy by facebook owner, Mark Zuckerberg got the the United State's congress and a lot went down. @noble-noah wrote a post about it and gave a decent anaysis. You all should check it out.
