RE: Exploring the Life of a Survivor

Thank you for sharing this story! I want to share something related but completely different in intention.

I am hoping that this will bring forward a different perspective in cases like this.

I helped a couple of kids (twins) last year stay at my home temporarily. They were abused by their stepfather. Their mother was supportive, they left the house when she found out about it but she suddenly died during the pandemic (non-COVID) and the kids had to stay with their aunt.

The aunt and her husband have means enough to sustain their only child.

The twins and their younger sister stayed at an institution in Talamban for a year while continuing their studies. They have already found a Germany-based sponsor but they have been complaining about the attitude of the people handling them.

What used to be athletes and honor students got failed grades because the institution has very strict rules preventing them from joining school extra-curricular activities and limiting Internet access which was crucial for their research.

I don't wish to say anything negative about our system but the social worker handling them has been rude and instilled the girls with fear, threatening them that if they don't comply and stay within the institution, they will look for them and their aunt will be charged with kidnapping.

The kids were very depressed. They had no safe space after losing their mother and every adult handling them seems to have their emotional welfare their least priority.

The aunt fought to get the kids back and signed a waiver. She has a kid of her own and can't support the needs of her nieces, so they sought help from us while the kids were finishing their studies in Talamban (they live in San Fernando).

They stayed with us until they graduated jr high. Now they're back on their feet at San Fernando, trying their best, getting back on the honor rolls and recently won local dance competitions.

Just a reminder that although we have people eager to help, there are also a lot of people with other motives or the lack thereof. I hope there will be more programs that will help empower these young women.

Not everyone who helps indeed has a good intention. That is why we should be aware and allow God to direct our paths. Thank you for sharing your experiences miss @janwrites.
