Every achievement starts with a decision to try
Thump.
Thump.
Thump.
She could feel her heart racing within her chest.
With trembling legs, she stood in front of the full-length mirror.
'It is going to be okay'. She kept repeating in her head, trying to calm herself down.
With one hand over her chest, she studied herself very carefully from head to toe.
How her dark brown curls fell over her shoulders. As her deep blue eyes met their reflection, they trailed down to her dress.
The baby pink gown wrapped her body from neck to toe so perfectly that, in that moment she fell in love with the dress. A small smile spread across her lips, the gloss on them was making them shine. The small silver beads around the collar shined like pearls and the pattern throughout look like butterflies flying.
Taking in a deep breath, she closed her eyes.
"You achieve so much just by trying, even if you don't win, you learn."
The voice of her father echoed within her head, as a blurry image of her father appeared before her eyes. She could remember him saying tis, when he was encouraging her to go for auditions. She never forgets that moment, that one sentence, it has always given her so much hope, so much courage. She opened her eyes with a bright, firm smile across her face and her eyes shining with hope.
“Zara, we are ready

With one last look at herself through the mirror, she walked away down the hall, up the steps and she was there.

She stood there. Silent.
Taking in the environment.
The crowd. The noise. The lightening.
There were so many people around the stage, cheering for her.
She looked upon them with a big smile plastered on her face, as she offered her hand out to them.
The people down there loved her. Her heart fluttered at the thought. Her smile grew wider as she shook hands with her fans.

She took a few steps back as she waved her hand up in the air.Alright people! Good evening.
And with that people went crazy, as the concert began.
Her First Live Concert.

She smiled at the memory, with her eyes closed as hair danced with the air which was fanning against her cheeks.

Its been seven years,She whispered slowly.

Opening her eyes, she looked at the picture. It was from the day of her first concert.

She was a terrible mess just before the event. The thought broke her smile into small giggles. She looked up
from the picture to stare down the sea waves as they travel their way up and down and finally end their journey on the ground so smoothly.

She took in a deep breath, closed her eyes and rested her head against the wall beside her bench.

Dad I think we have talked over this and we came to the conclusion that we are not talking about it anymore.Zara couldnot believe her dad started over this topic again.
It’s been 2 weeks and he hasnot given up on it, little did she know that he wasnot going to give up.

“Zara you should at least try once. You donot have to succeed but just try at least. Alex tried everything that was possible to convince her, but she was as stubborn as he was.
He couldnot stop the smile which broke out thinking about the attribute he has given her daughter.
What is it Dad? Zara asked with one brow raised.

Nothing. All I am saying is it is just a competition, its either you go further or you donot. There is nothing to lose. Her father gave extra pressure on every word to make them count.

Zara was staring at the pamphlet that rested on the table before her. Beautifully designed, colorful piece of paper was calling out to every aspiring singer from around the country for auditions.

Zara was unaware of her talent and therefore she never tried to make singing anything more than a hobby. She would sing for the competitions or opening ceremonies at her school or college, but she never aspired to join the industry.

With the corner of her eye she could see her dad looking up to her hopefully.

Okay Dad, I will try. She turned to her dad and was surprised to see his eyes glittering and a wide smile across his lips.

He was happy.

Listen Zara, you have no idea what you can gain. You achieve so much just by trying, even if you donot win, you learn. Alex finished off with a proud smile.

She stood up from the couch, went over to her dad and hugged him.

I love you Dad.

I love you too Zara”

A very loud noise woke her up. She couldn’t believe she slept on the bench against a wall.
She rubbed her eyes to clear her sight.

Two little girls were standing beside her bench smiling at her.

Hey. one of them spoke.
Hi, what is your name?
My name is Sahar and she is Nazra
Such sweet names. What are you two doing here?
We saw you sleeping and came over here” Sahar smiled sheepishly as she took out her notepad and offered it to Zara.

Can we have your autograph?
Zara smiled widely at them. The feeling gave her butterflies in her stomach.
Of course.Zara whispered as she took notepad from them.

She couldn’t believe such two little kids knew her and actually liked her.

Sitting there she couldn’t think of anything else but all the “What-ifs”

What if her father had never found the pamphlet?

What if her father never forced her to try out in auditions?

What if she had never agreed on trying?

What if she had never listened to her dad?

What if she had backed out at the time of her first concert?

Her dad was her motivation, her inspiration.
He forced her to try and she did it.
She completed the journey from being no one to someone who tried and finally won, she did it.
She was a successful singer now, and she achieved everything she has ever dreamed of.

You achieve so much just by trying, even if you dont win, you learn.

Sahar looked down at her notepad and smiled. That was enough motivation for her school project.
