My dear friend, Marilyn Goldsmith, was a brilliant poet. She could write in any poetic form. I was always astonished by what she could do with words. She wrote once, about poets, in her poem, Sonnet for a Poet:
Shelley had it wrong that's very clear
No one out there is listening to us
Poets occupy another sphere.
For all their impact on tomorrow's news
They might as well be working selling shoes
You write poetry, because you write poetry. As you say,
it is the only
thing that
makes you feel
whole again.
You have to be a little bit crazy to be a poet, I think, but what a wonderful kind of madness.
Keep writing :) I like this poem very much.
I'm glad you enjoyed it, thank you! That's a great (and accurate) stanza! I'm going to have to go in search of some of Marilyn's other writing. Do you have a favorite book of hers you'd suggest? Now that you mention it, I think most of us creatives are a little "crazy" but then I sometimes wonder if the normies (non-creatives) aren't the ones that are truly insane. ; )
She only published one book that is for sale on Amazon, although her work appeared in journals and she has won poetry prizes. Actually, I helped her to format that book for amazon: There Is a Special Place. Marilyn passed away in 2014. I'll give you the last stanza from the title poem:
There is as Special Place
What an apt time for her poem.
Thanks for the title and that timely verse! I just bought a copy of the book. 😊
🌟🌟
Thank you! I think you will love what you read. She was brilliant and kind. A good soul, and it comes through her writing.
You’re welcome! I can’t wait to read it.
Just bought the Kindle version of this: Poems from the Edge of the Apocalypse: A Collection of Poetry . I will read as I go to sleep at night and will write a review when I am finished.
Thank you! I really appreciate that. : )
