ITOHAN was so worried, for the past couple of weeks now, Chinedu changed, not that he acted differently around her, emotionally or in expression, but, something was off about him, she could tell, she tried making him talk about whatever it was, but he was adamant in saying everything was perfectly okay, so like any wise person would do, she left him alone and decided to watch him instead...!
Her pregnancy was far gone, and even though her shape was altered, she looked so gorgeous in her flowing gown, she couldn't help but notice how people stare at her... Smiling, she continued her journey in a slow pace…Yes she was paying Chinedu a surprise visit in his work place, it was almost close time, but she took the risk, not minding if he'd be gone before she got there...!
Entering into his work environment has always been fascinating to her, she has been here, twice earlier, so she was quite familiar with the staffs, including his boss, as she got in after leaving the security post... She met his boss, a man from the UK, an expatriate, like always he was so happy to see her.... He smiled broadly and welcomed her, she always felt great around MR James, and he was like her foreign father... After pleasantries and him asking after her health and state of his god child, she told him her mission of wanting to see Chinedu, he told her Chinedu was closed for the day...!
Looking quizzically at her, he told her Chinedu left two hours prior to this time, she immediately felt an instant chill, and had to brace herself so she wouldn't fall…Telling Mr. James she was okay, she hugged him, and with a smile, she made the journey to the gate... She was back to her street so she decided to walk slowly…!
Where was Chinedu?, she was very sure he wasn't at home, where has he been for two hours, was Chinedu cheating on her?... She stopped to catch her breath, her lungs felt like it will explode, with tears gathering in her eyes she sought somewhere she could sit... Saw a tree shade close to a building, and decided to use that...!!
She walked towards it, and sat, watching men, boys, go into the building, another day she would have been curious to know what was in there, but today, she had bigger problems, glancing at her watch, she saw it was getting late, if Chinedu was at home, she'd see him coming to look for her, but she saw him not, so she knew he wasn't yet home... Then she heard a voice laugh, that voice, she got up from her seat, and walked towards the sound of the laughter, knowing without seeing who it belongs to... on opening the veil used on the door of that building.... She saw Chinedu....!!
He was so engrossed in what he was doing, he didn't even see her, and neither did he notice the silence enveloping those around him who saw her.... She stared at him and with tears in her eyes she called him.... Chinedu!!!!
