In a flash of blinding light a silver and gold Daimon empress appeared in the center of the room. "Very well," said the soft soothing telepathic voice thought to be Empress Esperanza. "You truly love her, I can see that now. However, things may not be as simple as we thought. We must take back that which was stolen and she must be made an empress. I must take both of you to a neutral planet. Please kneel." The captain and princess kneeled as the Daimon pulled a device that looked like a small square that glowed in the middle. The device sent a beam into the princess who had a bright light around her not unlike the moon. The beam shot out of the princess into the device and then was sent into the other Daimon empress.

After the device was removed the emperor had his hands around the princess and sent a telepathically transmitted thought to the captain. "I will send you both to planet Heponoz where you will be given a shelter in which to build a new empire.

The captain and princess were then in a cold, dark cave underground.

The captain heard a telepathic transmission in his mind. "I have sent you and the princess here. I am Empress Sifoc and you are my emissary. I am so glad to have you both here for our new empire. We will build great and powerful empires and last beyond the universe as you have many times."

["So glad to have you both here"] emissary

"Yes Empress, you will be sent messages from my emissary at a later time." responded the captain.

After the two were in the cave for quite a long time it was morning. Faint light filtered through gaps in the ceiling and floor. The caves were empty. What was left of a landscape was mashed together.

"We have been abandoned. There should have been sentries. At any moment now the Daimons will invade and enslave you." The princess looked around for escape. "There is no escape from here, not back to the planets or back to my planet. Nor can we travel through space unless we have Daimon technology. We must hide and rest for your sake and mine. Yet we are still young and seemingly healthy. If we resist too much we will be taken against our will. The saving grace is that we cannot be killed directly. Our deaths can only be caused by a direct human action or telepathic command."

Before the princess came there were large predators that preferred the cave that they now were in. Without any food supply or water it was an obvious choice. They were far from any other cave with their own shelter. They had the option of fighting and running until they died. Yet they did not know what was next for them. They could no longer have their sanity. The Daimons would make them do things and they couldn't do anything. They would have the glory of being an empress to someone. Who could resist the glory the had by being chosen? To live and be forced to do anything was far better than being dead. They could not do anything to the Daimons but what they wanted.

Soon they heard a loud screeching sound. It was too loud to be a predator. It continued to get louder and louder. When the light filled the cave all they could see was a sand storm of many colors carrying what looked like pieces of stingray. They hit the cave floor and disintegrated into small particles that seemed to dissolve into the ground. "What is out there?" asked the princess.

"I don't know but it doesn't seem to matter." responded the captain. "We may never die but who wants long life if you are nothing but a slave? What we left behind is better than being a slave. Let's leave the cave and see what fate has provided for us."

After a few moments the sand storm moved outside of the cave. The cave was left filled with sand. The two crawled out of the cave and looked at this new world of sand, sky, and some mountains in the distance. They were in a shifting landscape. The sand swirled continuously and the ground was constantly moving. The princess and captain looked at each other. The princess asked, "Why are we here?"

"It doesn't seem to matter to me anymore," answered the captain. "To be completely honest as an explorer I don't see the value compared to what you bring. Other than a few riches and resources I can bring back there isn't much left here. This wasteland has no compelling resources for the Daimons yet they must be coming. We must find a shelter. Life here is not for me, my life is back home," explained Captain Tantil. "I am not as young as you and it may take me several years to recover from this planet's climate. I don't think I can survive such a desolate place."

After a few days they cleared the first chamber of rocks and snapped the very few plants that grew. It was hot as always and the captain and princess found something they were familiar with in the same chamber. "This burnt stench is familiar. This chamber has been burnt here, older than the rest. On my world this would be a place to be careful of. This was a home of a very paranoid Daimon lord. The Lord of the Dark who had a thing for the dark black sands. This world reminded him of his home world and I am sure he must have found on this world. It is too risky and the Daimons would not like to see an empty estate. So must be the reasoning of this." The Daimon lord who must have lived and died here. The Daimons however didn't need there to be ancient caves full of history. They despised history and any form of history to be honest.

The captain thought better of the idea of sleeping in the bed. "We still have this stunning golden instrument. It should still function but I'm not willing to bet my life on it. I suggest we sleep in here. It is built by the same Daimon lord who built the mansion. This might have been their private chambers. It doesn't feel like a prison to me. I think it is the safest place. We will wait out our time here until the Daimons discover us. Patience is a virtue that I learned from my mother. She said patience is a virtue that must be learned from anyone. With your powers, knowledge of the Daimons, and my knowledge of jump travel we could make a first strike. We could win this round between the two empires." He said as he slowly stood up. "Stop what you are doing and continue clearing the rocks. I will work on the room. On my world there wasn't the need to clear rocks, since my city was underground."

He held his instrument and jumped to the opposite side of the chamber. He started working once the dust cleared. "This has to be the room. It is still intact. Nobody else can be here. We are the only living creatures on this planet. Everything else was killed by the smell of sulfur or crushed by these falling rocks. Gods only know how long the Daimons must have been here. By the time the Daimons arrive we could have all the rooms cleared. They could use this place as their base. It just seems so rude to me."

"Rude to who? This world is not living. It is made from the bones of the people who once lived here. It is cold and inhospitable and probably uninviting to any Daimon. It is a waste of having a chamber without anybody living here."

He laughed and finished working on the rock.

The two lay down to rest. They shaved minutes off their breaths still processing their minds. The captain was sure that he would be eaten by a Daimon immediately. He could feel the Daimons observing them. Was there only one or were there many? The Daimons hated the sound of two people talking. It was noise.

They didn't notice the Daimons observing them. At least that is what the captain thought about them. He honestly didn't care if he was being observed. He believed the Daimons were affected by his thoughts as badly as he was. Perhaps for some reason the Daimons felt as if he were forcing himself into their minds. When they took humans they didn't eat humans but took eating them as a form of physical control. They would eat a couple of humans and figure out what the humans lived for and then they would consume it.

So when the passengers came it was not a shock as to what they were going to be expected to do, live their lives doing things that they were told to do.
