Snapshot: New Year's Morning, 4:00 AM. I'm playing a massively multiplayer game in my underwear with the lights off. Behind me, my girlfriend is drunk and snoring on the couch. I am like a nerd version of Don Jon. Instead of porn, I'm cheating on her with a bunch of dudes from around the world playing FPS. Worse, she likes to drink and I got her to drink a lot and pass out on purpose. Because I would rather play this game in the early hours of the new year than have a drunken conversation or have drunk sex with her. I joke about it with the guys I am playing with. I hit the keys pretty hard and she stirs. I feel a moment of panic. Fuck, did I wake her up?
This would be bad; I know from experience, ever since uni, when I went on a week long Zelda binge, that girlfriends and video game addiction do not mix. I look o ver my shoulder at her. She is so sexy there on the couch with one of her long legs now uncovered by the blanket. She doesn't wake up. I smile. I am so Happy.
