You're friends with this guy. A few months after he moved to your town, he developed a crush on you. He had said this once or twice before, but nothing concrete. You were hating on the guy and couldn't help but be a little annoyed that he seemed so smitten. The guy had a sweet personality but sometimes just got on your nerves.
That particular night he asked you to go to a party. The house he was staying in was huge and the parties always started around 10:00pm. The party started at 8:00pm. You figured it was pointless to tell him that you didn't want to go and not give him an answer, so you said yes. You had told your friend earlier that you had a bad feeling crawling all over you and wanted to sabotage this party. Your friend, who was a little too excited to see her new boyfriend, said she would be fine with you leaving early.
You arrive at the party at 8:00pm. You walk in and look around for your friend, but she is nowhere to be seen. You walk around and talk to a few people. At the end of the hall, You see your friend and her new boyfriend at the top of the stairs leaning in for a kiss. You walk up to them and they break apart. You tell them you had to leave to go pick up your friend at the mall. They insist that you go ahead and leave, that they would be fine without you. After you leave with your friend, you decide to go home.
You pass by your friends house and continue on to yours. You get there a little after 10:00pm and notice your lights are on. You walk in and see your friend in your jammies, asleep on the couch. You make sure everything is okay and go to get ready for bed. The next morning you wake up to your radio turning on by itself. You walk into your kitchen and the radio is playing your favorite song, this time by your favorite band. This has happened before, every time you leave your friend alone. She has always apologized for turning your radio on, but you know it isn't her. You leave again to go pick up your friend from work. This time it's a little after 3:00pm. You see her waiting for you at the train station.
You pick up your friend and take her grocery shopping. On your way home from the grocery store, your car breaks down. You call a tow truck, but your friend insists on walking you home and picking up the car in the morning. You shake your head. You know she wants to spend as much time with her boyfriend as possible. You make it home just in time to have dinner with her. After dinner you call it a night and go to bed.
You wake up the next day to hear your fridge open and close. You go to the kitchen and the entire fridge is cleaned out. You look around and see that the contents of your cabinets are also gone. You walk outside and the ground around your trashcan is gone, and the can is lying on the ground. You know it wasn't your friend, because she only helps herself to food, she has never taken anything that wasn't edible. You decide it is time to confront your friend.
You pick her up at work and the two of you head to your house. The girl can't stop talking about her new boyfriend this, new boyfriend that. You try and tell her that it is time to face the facts that he is not a real person. She gets upset and pulls over to the side of the road. You get out of the car and stand there trying to think of how to tell your friend the truth. That is when you hear the engine start and the car peel out and zoom away.
You scream and run after the car, but it is no use. You cannot keep up. you stand there hopeless, when you see headlights in the distance heading your way. You realize that the car is coming for you. In a last ditch effort you run into the woods. When you stop running, you stop, after bending over and heaving. You look up and see the headlights pass by you. You hear voices, but you can't understand them. You can't open your mouth, but you hear the voices again tell you that the car passed you and that they will take you to safety.
You wake up, still in the woods, and the headlights are no longer in sight. You don't know how long you were in the other place, but it felt like forever. Just when you are getting your bearings, something makes you jump. You turn around and the headlights are now between you and your savior. You can't hurt it, but you do know it has no use for you. You make yourself known and the car moves forward towards you. It is a little girl, only a few years old. She has a rifle in her hand and she points it at you. You are scared that maybe that is the way your friend and her boyfriend planned it. You open your mouth and the child pushes the barrel of the gun in it and dies. She was to have been your savior, but it was a trap to get you alone, and kill you.
You make yourself known to the creature and it takes you to it's cave. After a short conversation it tells you that it can do anything, that you are in its world, and therefore yours. You, as it begins, begins to become the creature yourself.
You have been trapped in a room full of light for so long, that it has begun to fade. The girl still has her gun, but you don't know how much it is a threat now. It is an open room with lights that no longer shine, and two doors. One of the doors is white and talks to you. The other is black and does not speak. The white door tells you that it is the first friend since the child's death. You don't know what to do, but you do know that you are not the only one. You look to the black door, and it opens. You walk steadily into it, knowing this is what you have to do. The white door opens to a bright room, full of people, bound by the black door.
The door closes, and you are trapped.
When you get to the mouth of the cave, the creature grabs your arm and you see it for the first time. It is a monster with horns, and it has a strong grip on you. The creature mentions that it needs food. You tell it that you will bring the food to it so that you can get out of the cave.
The creature, satisfied with the plan, lets go of you, and you make your way to the exit. On the way out the child's voice comes back and the wraith is hinted at again.
