So I got myself a Graphics tablet a couple of weeks back, an other than a few test sketches, it’s pretty much been on ice. Tired of having it just lying around, i decide to take it for a spin and Lo! Nero was born, the vampire general.
Well :), Nero isn’t protagonist material, definitely not the major antagonist of any story either, but he’d be a prominent character in the story that’s still cooking in my head. I haven’t gotten my hands wrapped around what the comic would be focused on, but I know Nero’s story.
A Rare and Brilliant Vampire with a conscience, loathing himself and vowing never to taste blood again... a suicidal move. The queen wouldn’t have that, because she has fallen in love with him, in a bid to keep both the love of her life and her kingdom, she has her most trusted diviners cast a spell on him against his will. This was done via a mystical mask, the mask shows him whatever he needs to see or hear to justify any action he takes... a walk around the problem of his conscience. Soon he earns the respect of his peers and can now be seen as a worthy spouse of the queen, eliminating any competition and rival claim to the throne. The power couple was unstoppable, Nero rising to the highest rank of general in the vampire army but things could only be further from perfect. His ruthlessness grew and grew until he had no emotions, no regard for the little laws they had and no loyalty to anyone but himself. The queen realizing what she had created returns to her diviner to reverse the spell but it was too later, his soul had already bounded with the mask forever, destroying his mask would likely mean destroying his soul. Eventually the kingdom divides due to political differences, the two former lovers heading opposite sides, the queen determines to free Nero herself, even if it meant his eternal death…. Finding her way into his chambers at night with a huge blow of rage she broke his mask into several pieces, Nero collapses dying slowly in her arms. She lets out a loud cry that all vampires heard. That day, they all put down their arms and united under the queen, burying Nero in the most royal of chambers and erecting a Statue in his image, he was the greatest warrior they had ever seen and had led them into over a thousand Impossible victories.
However the universe thrives on chaos and loathes lasting peace, Nero’s corpses regenerated his mask just like any other body part since it was already a part of his soul, it took months but he arose again, this time unlike anything anyone had seen, he massacred the whole vampire community alongside the queen. He became a legend and a myth roaming about the earth leaving a trail of death and bodies, He couldn’t be killed nor stopped no matter what was done to him, it may take months, years or decades but he resurfaces every time, Deadlier and Stronger.
