Perfect Adaptation

They were winning the war against the planet.

The two alien species were each other's worst nightmare. Whilst the Races fought each other, they did sometimes have peaceful encounters but it was nothing new. As each alien species occupied the planet, they tried to make the planet their own in a variety of ways.

The Humans, the original inhabitants of the planet, named it [redacted to protect the original identity of the author].

As the Humans tried to make their mark on the planet, the Creatures harassed them. Humans stuck to the mainland, building their settlements. The Creatures decided to make their mark on the mainland and harboured on the islands.

The Humans never invaded the islands but the Creatures encroached into the mainland. The Creatures were technically the more intelligent species and thus were able to build on a very similar level to Humans. However, as the Humans were peaceful and technologically advanced, the land war was a walkover.

The attacks on the Humans were never aggressive, in fact the Humanity was never under direct threat; it was always a war of the wills. The Creatures lived to the south of the Humans, and the Humans to the north. The Creatures saw the Humans as their rivals and thus attacked them as often as they could.

As the Humans fought back, the Creatures and Humans got slightly peeved at each other. The Creatures found Humans to be arrogant and felt that without the constant threat of invasion they were better off. The Humans were thrilled with the war; they loved to be at war with their rivals.

The Creatures were limited in numbers but Humans were few. The Humans needed large numbers to tip the scales; they needed to build up the Humans and their technology to survive the Creatures. As the Numbers of the Humans continued to grow and technology became more advanced, the war began to favour the Humans.

The Creatures on the islands joined in with the Humans to make the invasion easier. It aided in their war effort, but their numbers were just not enough to win.

The Creatures on the island knew this. If they implemented colony ships and invaded the mainland, they would give Humans all the resources they needed to set up the start of a colony. The Creatures would gain a refuge and it would be a sustainable solution.

The Creatures would then rule the planet but they knew they would lose the war, always due to the number of humans.

If the Creatures invaded the mainland, they would lose. If they migrated to the mainland, they would lose; the Humans would destroy them. However, if they decided to conquer the mainland, they would have a chance of winning.

They had to make a choice of course – the Humans could be destroyed for sure but the Creatures would dominate. The Creatures had been losing the war for some time due to the aggression of the Creatures on the islands.

The Creatures on the island knew that the Humans knew about their invasion plans. Once the Creatures invaded the mainland, the Humans would find them. However, the Creatures thought that if they chose to fight, they might win. Warriors on the planet were scarce, although the Creatures had a great number there were Humans who could fight them and the War would be very short.

The Creatures were counting on an unlikely scenario; they were counting on the fact that they would destroy the civilization of the Humans. If they did, then they could live in peace. The Creatures would return to their home and the Humans to theirs, as supposed savages, not able to colonize as well.

The Creatures loved their home and did not want to invade it, but Humans were arrogant and did not play by the rules. This was how many Events happened; this was when the War of the Races began - a war to protect their race and planet.

Years had passed and the war was still ongoing.

Every day, both the Creatures and the Humans met in late afternoon with the aid of Commander Nicholas Porter. He was the most decorated soldier of the Human race, famous for leading his forces into battles that were completely suicidal.

Porter was the one who brokered peace. He hoped to convince the Creatures to stop attacking the Humans and let the war come to an end. The humans were tired of the War and did not want to commit to a conflict that would lead to the extinction of their species and allow the Creatures to dominate.

Porter was a great leader and many commanders followed him in his wars. However, he was also arrogant. He knew that he could lead the Humans to victory because of his military training – humans are incredibly good at hand to hand combat. He thought that if he led his forces into colonies, they would conquer time and time again.
