How the Cookie Crumbles: Episode 2

in #story6 years ago (edited)

Hello friend!

What follows is a unique synthesis of thoughts from two completely different and independent individuals.

How the Cookie Crumbles is a collaborative work between @churchboy and @royalrose, exclusively published on Steemit.

This is the second part of the tale which @churchboy began writing here.

I hope you have as much fun reading this as I am having writing it. Follow the story. Who knows, you may be invited to write one of the parts as we go on.

This explanation did nothing to help Ada's anxiety. She feared that the discomfiture which accompanied her anxiety was beginning to express itself on her face, visible to any passerby who spared her a glimpse.

Again, she turned to the teenager and asked;

"I'm sorry to bother you. What says the time?

He must have increased the volume of the music playing because he carried on nodding his head and tapping his feet to the beat, oblivious to her question. She rolled her eyes in disgust.

Ordinarily, she wouldn't be mad at a young boy who neither knew her from Adam nor had done her wrong but everything was not going as she had anticipated, so she was sorry but not sorry if the poor boy had to share in the blame for her predicament.

Going against her better judgment, she poked him hard enough to prompt a little yelp of pain and his immediate attention.

He didn't look happy to see her but she had gone beyond caring at the moment.

"What?", he asked, not bothering to hide his displeasure at been disturbed and in quite a rude manner.

Putting on a smile that went no further than her lips, she repeated her question without apologizing despite knowing very well she ought to.

The boy still frowning, took a quick look at her wrist before looking up at her, then repeated the motion, twice.

Curious, she followed his gaze to see he was probably wondering why she had asked him, when she had a wristwatch herself.

"What a rude kid", she thought to herself before answering his obvious question.

"It stopped working on the flight here".

He shrugged, told her the time was 4pm, then plugged in his earphones once again. The conversation had ended whether she liked it or not.

She had a feeling the boy was smart enough to discern she had lied about her wristwatch. Well, she had bigger worries than correcting the impression the boy had of her. She would most likely never meet him again. In fact, she could almost guarantee it.

She adjusted her sitting position.

The old man must have left while she was speaking to the boy. Her thoughts returned to her plight.

What would she do if he didn't make good his promise? What had possessed her to embark on such a journey without thinking it through properly? Was it the need to break out from her routine and boring life? Adventure perhaps?

In all of her twenty-three years on planet Earth, this was the first time she had ventured out on something without triple-checking it.

What would she do? It was her first time in Lagos. It was her first time in Nigeria. The way things were going, she perceived this was going to be a journey of firsts.

Now, it's over to @churchboy.

Without asking my opinion, he would write the third part and post same within 24 hours. The end of the story is still unknown by both writers.

I'll be seeing you.

From your favorite Nigerian,😉
